Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 11/20/2015 - 8:35pmThe countdown to Turkey Day has begun, and living in Carson City gives us plenty to be thankful for: Beautiful views, our own deer herd, great shops, yummy restaurants, talented actors, artists, and craftsmen, and wonderful people. Get in the spirit of giving with a new tattoo from Hooligan’s Ink to benefit the Austin House. For something less permanent, drop off a turkey at one of the contenders in the Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bars. Giving your time is valuable, too. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob meets once a month to help keep Carson’s trails clean and litter-free.
Friday, Nov. 20: Things to do in Carson City

The cast and crew of the Western Nevada Musical Theater Co. knock it out of the park with this production. Carson High School’s annual Craft Fair begins tonight; a plethora of crafters, artisans, and vendors will be there to help with your holiday gift list. It’s West Coast Swing night at Yaple’s Ballroom, so put on your dance shoes and kick the weekend off right.

If you find yourself to the east of Carson, head by the Holiday Craft Fair in Dayton. Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint makes a good choice for dinner tonight; they’re hosting an all styles jam with Xing Bridges. Good luck to the athletes competing in today’s Special Olympics Bowling Tournament in Reno.

Senator Square: Holiday craft fair this week, plus culinary teams up for Pie to the Rescue

Hundreds of crafters from all over Nevada and Northern California will fill both gymnasiums and halls of CHS. All money raised from the craft fair is donated to the various student clubs and organizations at CHS. Come support this annual tradition. Santa will also be on hand for photos.

Hit the slopes if you are so inclined, several Tahoe resorts have opened for the season. Runners should head out to Washoe Lake State Park for the first of the Be Bold, Run in the Cold series sponsored by Ascent Runs. If you prefer something warmer, head to Crossroads Lounge for their Grand Re-opening. It’s under new ownership and is sure to have something to keep you toasty.

There is no fee and we are giving a FREE raffle ticket to anyone over the age of twelve just for attending our Craft Fair. There will be other items you can buy a ticket for and need not be present to win. All of the proceeds from spaces, the cafe and the raffle go to benefit seniors in Douglas County!

Senator Square: Students get 'once in lifetime' chance to hear Pearl Harbor vet

Charles Sehe, now 92, was a teenaged sailor on the USS Nevada when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor during World War II.
Senator Square: CHS Blue Thunder Marching Band brings home first prizes

Bill Heitman and Ila Acchtabowski from Junior Achievement have been instrumental in making this happen.The course will be taught by professionals from Sierra Financial Advisors Sally Kaplan and Katie Coombs. Junior Achievement is a non-profit youth organization founded in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, Theodore Vail, and Winthrop M. Crane.

Senator Square: Carson High seniors volunteer during Carson City election

Emely Lopez, Claudia Vazquez, Kimberly Torres, Karina Munoz, Maria Pacheco, Deanna Earwicker, and Amber Seifert spent the day at the polls welcoming and assisting voters. Each year, CHS government teachers work in conjunction with the Carson City Clerk-Recorder’s office to provide student volunteers for the elections. We’d like to wish out-going Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover the best of luck in his retirement and we look forward to continuing our relationship with that office as Ms.
Holiday Craft Fair inside Carson Mall

Over 200 pieces of framed western art including Bev Doolittle and Michael Goddard. You can find hand crafted items. Sweaters, animal hats, personalized wine glasses and ornaments, jewelry and more. Marilyn Monroe framed photographs, blankets and hoodies are available. Himalayan salt lamps and salt products. Craft fair hours Monday to Saturday 9am to 9pm. Sunday 10am to 6 pm. Now till Christmas Eve.

For adults admission Friday is $2 and allows re-entry on Saturday; Saturday's admission is $1.50, with a discount if you bring something non-perishable for their food drive.

Comstock Mobile Village Craft and Rummage Sale located on College Parkway across from the Carson Airport from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 20 vendors will be offering hand-made goods, food, and rummage. Free coffee will help keep you warm.

After the success of last year’s fairs, we are again scheduling an indoor holiday craft fair in the Carson Nugget Casino, in downtown Carson City, in the 2nd floor banquet rooms on November 19 & 20 with early on Saturday morning via the casino loading dock. Sell times will be 12 noon till 7pm Saturday; 12 noon till 5 pm Sunday.
