Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Unit and local places of worship jointly organized a police-community engagement activity to take place in Douglas County as part of the first National Faith and Blue Weekend.

Sierra Lutheran High School launched its Graduation Week celebration Saturday with members of the school’s faculty and administration delivering congratulatory signs to the Class of 2020.

Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. Heading into Saturday, May 18, 2019 we say welcome to the weekend Carson City. Activities abound throughout the region. Bring an umbrella as the forecast calls for some showers. Coming Saturday is a Curriculum Sale and Clothing Exchange hosted by 2019 F.A.I.T.H. Home School. The event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hilltop Community Church, Building B, 3588 Romans Rd, Carson City.

CLOTHING EXCHANGE: Bring one-take one clothing exchange! That’s right! Free clothes and shoes for your children! You need not reserve a table for the clothing exchange. Just bring gently used children’s clothing and shoes, please.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

Pocket translators and Bibles are not the items most teenagers would dream about packing for a Spring Break trip. However, for 12 Carson City area high school students, these items, joined by hearts to serve, will be the most precious commodities needed for an adventure of a lifetime.

Solutions is in full swing, and Carson High School is the only high school in Nevada with this amazing grant. The grant money provides out-of-school-time supports for at-risk students. At risk, a broad term in this grant, includes students who are at risk of not passing a class, at risk of becoming truant, or just in need of a safe-place after school.

Decided where to go to college yet? Filled out all the applications? Been accepted? Now what? As if that was not difficult enough, now comes the time to think about moving, what to take, what not to take, whether or not it is better to live in the dorms or get an apartment. And then there is the toughest question of all: refrigeration? College life is scary at first.

Students of Carson City School District are back to school Monday, Jan. 7. Sleeping in will become a thing of the past, and the alarm clock snooze button will become the most used and abused item owned by those whose pituitary glands refuse to follow the built-in clock of the body.

Hilltop Community Church, 3588 Romans Road in South Carson City, has assembled 35 full Thanksgiving family dinner boxes complete with all of the fixings to give away today at 3 p.m. at the church, located next to Sierra Lutheran High School and East Fork Fire Station 12 near Jacks Valley Road and U.S. Highway 395 South.

The boxes will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

Come one, come all. Scheduled for Monday, Sept. 10 from 4:30 to 8 p.m., this once-a-year event takes the traditional back-to-school night to a whole new level as Carson High School opens its doors a little wider and a little longer.

Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” But it is difficult to imagine that Monday, just two days away, is here already, and it is now time once again for students, parents included, to set that alarm clock and prepare for the 2018-2019 school year.

Annual F.A.I.T.H. Homeschoolers Curriculum Sale and Clothing Exchange will be held May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Hilltop Community Church, 3588 Romans Road in Carson City.

The public is invited. Those attending can:

We’ve got a beautiful spring weekend to enjoy. I’d like to make this easy on you: if you are only looking for Easter-related fun, you’ll find it all HERE in my list of everything Easter. Those events are also included in this list, but there is so much more going on. Take a hike with Muscle Powered, get down to some live music, or cheer on your favorite roller derby girl.

Easter festivities are on the way, starting with the Easter Eggstravaganza in the Bob McFadden Plaza on Thursday. You’ll find fun stuff: Easter Bunny photos, brunches, egg hunts, services and more throughout Carson City, Dayton, Douglas, and Virginia City. To make it easier to find something in your neck of the woods, I’ve put in ‘bold’ the name of any town outside of Carson City.

Sierra Lutheran High School, along with Carson High School and Douglas High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes, were fortunate this past week to receive a visit from Flora Savai, a young lady who grew up in the Mathare slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

It’s beginning to look, and sound, a lot like Christmas. Let the Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble entertain you with the in the warmth and magic of the holiday season during their free Winter Wandering concerts. ‘Elf’ is a modern holiday classic, and you’ll find it on the big screen today and Wednesday at the Galaxy Theater. Track down Santa at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; a family membership to the museum makes a great gift for anyone with little ones. Keep reading for even more Sunday fun day activities.

Santa comes in all shapes, sizes, and apparently, vehicles. Hop aboard the Santa Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum. It’s an out-of-this-world Alien Santa at the annual Zen Christmas at A to Zen. A cookie-loving Santa can be found at Adele’s during their annual toy drive for the Ron Wood Resource Center. If your ‘kids’ are the four-legged kind, then head over to PetSmart or Paws to Pur-fection Dog Grooming for your holiday photos. In addition to the Santa-mania, you’ll find a downtown Carson Beer Crawl, two plays at the Brewery Arts Center, and plenty of music.

Friday has finally arrived, and it has brought some nightlife with it. Enjoy the Trippin King Snakes on stage at the Max Casino. The Carson Nugget gives you comedian John Hilder in Carson Comedy and the band Adrenaline playing in ‘The Loft.’ Kids will love the Wild Horse Children’s Theater production of ‘Honk, Jr.’, while ‘Love/Sick,’ performed by the Proscenium Players, is meant for an older audience. Let Roska Entertainment take you into late-night with their weekly dance party in Battle Born Social’s Sage Lounge.
