Hello, Carson City. I trust everyone had a lovely weekend. It’s time for a new workweek to begin. Mondays are relatively quiet, but there are still a few options. It’s a great day to hit the lanes; one dollar will get you a game or shoe rental at Carson Lanes. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at Comma Coffee with some music by CW and Mr. Spoons. High Sierra Swing Dance Club has their weekly ‘Club Night Out’ at El Charros, complete with an intermediate swing dance lesson. Get your karaoke on at Firkin and Fox.

Bikes, and cars, and brews: oh my! Downtown Carson is awash in activity on Saturday. Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

SATURDAY:

What gorgeous weather we have this weekend! Head over to Eagle Valley Middle School for a rummage sale benefiting their LEGO Robotics Team; you may find something fun for your patio. The Spring Fling Stop and Shop at the Plaza Hotel will help you spruce up your wardrobe. Or head up to Silver City for the big closing sale at Doodad’s Emporium. If you find yourself in Gardnerville, the First Annual Summer Splendor Showcase and Expo features vendors galore.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its annual Spring Ball dinner-dance on April 25 at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson St. Cost is $35. Hors d’oeuvres and no-host cocktails at 5:30 p.m., dance performances at 6:30, buffet dinner at 7 p.m., open dancing 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. to West Coast swing, nightclub two-step, country two-step, and waltz. The sun is shining, the flowers blooming, the birds chirping, the wind gusting, and Carson City is hopping! Easter fun can be found this weekend at the annual EGGstravaganza at Carson Tahoe Medical Center, the Children’s Museum, the Carson Mall, and the Brewery Arts Center.

Head over to Mills Park for the Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration, complete with military vehicles, exhibits, and more. For demonstrations from soldiers with an even older history, the Nevada Civil War Volunteers will be in Dayton Saturday.

Keep up the snowy thoughts, Carson City. We desperately need the water, the ski resorts need visitors, and those mountains are so much prettier with a blanket of white. Wildcat Softball on Saturday is weather pending, so it’s too early for me to call it canceled.

Grab your dance shoes and kick up your heels at a beginning swing dance lesson at El Charro’s tonight. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club hosts its monthly Swing Dance Party in the Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center Saturday night. If you prefer to dance in cowboy boots, you can learn Country Line and Partner Dancing at the 11th Frame Lounge in Carson Lanes every Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Monday is upon us and it’s drizzly. You could stay indoors and celebrate National Clean Out Your Computer Day, but there are a few reasons to put your umbrella to work. CW and Mr. Spoons will get your toes tapping at Comma Coffee at lunchtime. It’s the last week to catch the New Year’s Show at the NAA Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. High Sierra Swing Dance Club will be dancing the night away at El Charro’s for their weekly Club Night Out.

A flurry has blown into town: not of the snow kind that we so sorely need, but one of Legislative activity. The 2015 Legislative season starts today, so please keep an eye out for increased activity in our downtown crosswalks.

Thanks to Muscle Powered and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, Tuesdays are a good day to go for walk and explore some great trails and paths around town. You can find the schedule online here, and I always include them in my list.

It’s a Jazz Extravaganza tonight as the Mile High Jazz Band teams up with Carson High School’s Jazz Band at the Community Center.

First things first. I want to send a big shout out and good luck to all of our Carson kids that are competing at the Flips Invitational Gymnastics meet in Reno this weekend. For those of you who aren't the proud parents of tumblers, Carson City has plenty to keep you busy.

Beginning West Coast Swing dance lessons are now offered by Tim Renner at El Charro Avita on Tuesday nights 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. No partner is necessary and lessons are on a drop-in basis for $8. Come learn to dance in a casual, friendly, non-judgmental setting while making new friends and exercising.

Intermediate Lessons are available Mondays at El Charro Avita from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. for $8, followed by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club's club night out at seven o'clock.

The Tuesday after a day off can feel like a Monday, but it does make the week go by quickly. It’s back to school for those attending Western Nevada College, and maybe back to work for some of those who attend the Greater Nevada Credit Union’s Job Fair today.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club sponsors free open dancing to DJ music Every Monday evening 7-9pm preceded by an intermediate dance lesson by Tim Renner at 6pm. The dance lesson is $8, no partner needed, drop in basis. Come see the new dance floor and enjoy meeting new people and dancing in a casual, non threatening atmosphere.

The High Sierra Swing Dance Club, Yaples Ballroom, and several individual dancers purchased a new dance floor for El Charro Avitia Restaurant and Bar located at 4389 So. Carson St., Carson City. The new floor was installed by volunteers from the dance community on Jan. 18. Both groups use the restaurant for the following dancing events.

It’s National Rubber Ducky Day! I have no idea how that is relevant to anything, but now I've got the ‘Rubber Ducky’ song from Sesame Street in my head. It’s also Stephen Foster Memorial Day, so feel free to sing ‘Camptown Races’, one of the prolific song-writer’s most famous songs, instead. Keep the musical theme going today with the Carson Feet Warmers during lunch and the Mile High Jazz Band playing this evening, both at Comma Coffee.

The kids are back in school, the workweek is underway, but Carson City still stays fun. Check out the Carson City Classic Cinema Club at Red’s Old 395 tonight as they show Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, get your swing on at El Charro Avita’s, or take a hike with Muscle Powered up Prison Hill.

Hey ‪Swing Dancers!‬ High ‪‎Sierra‬ ‪Swing ‎Dance‬ Club (HSSDC) is presenting a six week beginner ‪West Coast Swing (WCS) dance class on Wednesdays beginning Jan. 28 through Feb. 25, 2015. Get a taste of Swing at the club's monthly dance held in the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom on Jan. 24. HSSCD will have a free beginners lesson starting at 6:30 p.m. and free night of dance for new west coasters.

Starting in February, Tim Renner will teach a Beginning West Coast Swing lesson for $8 a person from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at El Charro Avita. A partner is not required.

For those with more practice, every Monday Night in the back bar of El Charro's at 4389 S. Carson St., Carson City, High Sierra Swing Dance Club puts on a Club Night Out, preceded by an Intermediate Swing Lesson.
