Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Fall-themed train rides from the Virginia Truckee Railroad Company and the Nevada State Railroad Museum will be available on Saturday and Sunday. A virtual “Light After Dark” fitness event will be held on Saturday to support the Carson City-based Advocated to End Domestic Violence program. While the building that is housing the Lamplighter bar has undergone many names throughout its long history, owner Cheryl Mathwig said she always connected to its iteration of being the Lamplighter.

Now the bar that was most recently known as Tommy’s Neighborhood Bar has reverted to its old name, and Mathwig is dedicated to bringing back historical touches.

Roper’s Heating and Air Conditioning delivered more than 20 brand-new box fans for Carson City seniors during the annual 2020 KOLO Cares Fan Drive.

This is the second year the Carson City Senior Center has participated in the drive, distributing fans to seniors who either do not have air conditioning or who may not be able to afford to run it.

Gusty winds and a slight chance of showers arriving Friday will turn to abundant sunshine and a gradual warm up around the Carson City area and Lake Tahoe region through Memorial Day weekend and beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

The Carson Nugget and Food For Thought, a Carson city nonprofit that is dedicated to feeding children in need, teamed up this fall and launched a winter coat drive that culminated Monday where dozens of children were able to pick their new jackets and parkas and enjoy a holiday brunch among friends and family.

On Monday, Dec. 23, more than 130 Carson City children in transition will receive a brand new coat, a gift and a holiday brunch, thanks to the efforts of Food for Thought, a Carson City-based non-profit dedicated to feeding children, and the generosity of the Carson City Nugget Casino Hotel.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Tuesday evening to a small HVAC fire at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Lone Mountain Drive.

UPDATE: 12:57PM: Firefighters on scene have located the source of the smoke, which appears to be coming from an elevator motor. Crews are working to stop the smoke.

Carson City Firefighters have responded to an activated fire alarm and smoke investigation call at 400 West King Street in Carson City, across from the Brewery Arts Center and near the corner of Division Street.

According to firefighters on scene, there is considerable smoke coming from the first floor area where the heating and air conditioning units are located.
