Carson City Symphony's comprehensive program of string instruction begins the last week of August, after school, at four locations in Carson City.

Strings in the Schools, directed by the Symphony's Education Director, Sue Jesch, provides free beginning violin lessons for students grades 2-5, a beginning cello program for selected 5th graders, and ensemble/orchestra experience for string students in all grades. Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association.

Carson City Symphony is coming to Reno to perform for Artown! The concert is on Sunday, July 7, at 5:00 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Avenue. The program, "Movies & More," features organ soloist Michael Langham, bassoon soloist Eric Fassbender, and vocal soloist Jakki Ford. Admission is $10 at the door, or online at CCSymphony.com.

Harpist Jeremy Keppelmann will perform in the historic Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Friday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the recital, sponsored by the Carson City Symphony Association and the Brewery Arts Center, is $10 for adults, and $5 for youth age 12 and under. The Carson City Symphony Association presents the Carson Chamber Singers in a pair of concerts dedicated to victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December. The first concert will be on Friday, March 8, at 7:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 212 N. Division Street, Carson City. The second will be on Sunday, March 10, at 5:00 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Avenue, Reno. General admission is $10, free for youth age 16 and under.

String players of all ages and levels are invited to join the fifth annual Christmas Carol Playalong on Friday, Dec. 21, 10 a.m., inside the Carson Mall, 1227 S. Carson Street. The event is free and open to the public.

The Christmas Carol Playalong is hosted by Not Quite Ready for Carnegie Hall Players, the Carson City Symphony Association's string ensemble for adult beginning and returning musicians directed by Sue Jesch. It includes violin, viola, cello, bass, and harp players who meet Thursday mornings, September to June.

RENO – President Barack Obama made a brief stopover here today, visiting with a couple who refinanced their home through a White House initiative helping underwater homeowners who have government-backed loans.

After meeting with Paul and Valerie Keller, Obama urged Congress to expand the Home Affordable Refinancing Program (HARP) to other mortgages as well.

Jazz from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carson Plaza Senior Living, 2120 E. Long St., features performances by Judith Ames and friends. Song stylist Judith Ames has been singing jazz and Latin tunes in multiple languages around the area for the past six years. She will be joined by two fabulous musicians - Rocky Tatarelli, on tenor sax, and Paul January on keys.

The Carson City Symphony will play Saturday April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carson Community Center with a program of "Dances and Romances" featuring guest harpist Marina Roznitovsky. Sounds like a concert not to be missed.

Roznitovsky will join the symphony for Saint-Saens' Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra. Conducting will be David Bugli. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for seniors, students and Symphony Association members. Those 16 and under are admitted free.

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present "Dances and Romances: A Concert" on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The concert features guest harpist Marina Roznitovsky in performances of Camille Saint-Saens' "Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra" and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "Concertino for Harp." The concert also includes A. Paul Johnson's Symphony No. 1 ("The Romantic") and Elena Roussanova Lucas' "Tatarian Dances."
