Excitement abounds as teachers and students have been holding multiple events throughout Carson City this holiday season, everything from Christmas tree sales with CHS teacher and Adviser Ty McMillen’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes to the American Sign Language students of teacher Mary Anne Weaver putting on their Sign Me a Song Christmas production at the high school.

Recently, I was subjected to poor management at a new local restaurant in Carson City. We have all experienced poor management within our work careers and thought a friendly reminder should be sent out this Holiday Season.

The manager and the serving employees are the face of the business to their clients that patronize the food establishment. Management can make or break a business.

Before you break into the cookies, you might want to consider a morning bike ride with Muscle Powered; it won’t do anything for the calories, but it may assuage some guilt. If you’re over 21, then test your luck at the Senior Citizen’s Center. BINGO today raises money for the Meals on Wheels program that feeds home-bound seniors. You’ve got one last chance to see Santa Claus. Find him at the Carson Mall until 5 p.m. and then he’s off for his midnight ride.

If you’re anything like me, there are still plenty of last-minute preparations for the holiday. Luckily the shops and businesses around Carson City are there with open arms. Find something one of a kind at the Carson Mall Craft Fair, drop it off at the Rainbow Girls Assembly #7 gift wrapping booth, and grab lunch while you wait. Breakfast with Santa at the Fox Brewpub serves as a toy drive for area kids and as no-fuss way to get start the day with a full belly. Read on for a weekend full of holiday happenings.

Muscle Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City, recently received a $2000 grant from Nevada Department of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board to facilitate a video competition to create public service announcements about the dangers of texting and driving.

The monthly Walkabout hosted by Carson City Supervisor, Ward 1, Karen Abowd, takes place Friday at Mills Park.
This is an opportunity for constituents to express their ideas, thoughts and opinions about the many changes and things happening in Carson City.

There are no specific topics this month, which opens up the possibility to discuss whatever folks want.

Please note there will be no Walkabout in January, but will resume in February.

To attend, meet on the steps of Carson City Community Center at noon, and feel free to take a sack lunch.

Over the past months I have addressed many subjects related to traffic safety. These articles were written to educate and inform you, the motoring public, on a variety of issues from drinking and driving to pedestrian safety and other situations that arose during the year.

Now, as you travel to your holiday destinations to spend time with loved ones and friends, I ask that you take some time to consider what I have written about. Arriving safely should be your number one priority.

This year Carson City Toyota Scion will celebrate more than 30 years of helping Toys for Tots with its Christmas Drive. We are asking for your help again to make a difference in a child’s Christmas.

Thank you to two local businesses that helped us help out the emergency shelter that our wonderful city opened for the homeless in our community. My two sons and I went to a few local businesses to purchase some goodies and warm beverages to donate to the shelter this evening.

Many believe that government is increasingly responding to the agenda of special interests and not acting for the common good. I am holding steadfast that our local government needs to be: of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Cara Collins from Carson City is one of the dedicated Salvation Army bell ringers helping raise money for the less fortunate in Carson City, Nevada.

Happy Holidays! It is wine walk time again. Held the first Saturday of every month from 1 to 5 p.m. this Carson City Downtown Business Association Wine Walk is the last one of 2014. New this month is a redesigned map highlighting various business stops and local shops participating throughout downtown Carson City.

We at Catmandu would like to thank the good people of Carson City and the surrounding area for all your kind support. We exist because of you. So many of you have given your time and energy to the kitties; as well as donating blankets, beds, food, money and much more. We can't thank you enough! SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. – Santa Claus will be visiting the Silver Springs Ranger Station at Lake Lahontan Recreation Area on Saturday, December 21.

Photos with Santa will be taken by Nevada State Parks staff and available for download at parks.nv.gov. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own cameras. Happy Holidays from the rangers and staff at Lake Lahontan State Recreation Area.

As the Toys for Tots Coordinator ....
I have never seen demand so high and donations so low.

We have had a 35% increase on requests from families this year.
Ron Wood Family Resource Center has been the Toys for Tots coordinating agency for 8 years and I have been Coordinator for 5 years.

We have been low on toys before ... but never like this.

For at least two days a pilot has flown his or her airplane over Carson City in the afternoons displaying their message of Christmas. If anyone knows who the pilot is, sign in, chime in and tell us.

We will be running light on stories here from now through the New Year unless some earth-shattering government or political event occurs.
We’d like to thank all our readers and supporters for their emails, comments and story suggestions. This was a fun year in Nevada government and state politics, and next year is shaping up to be another  fun one.

Yep, I got to the Carson Community Center a 7:30 p.m. Friday night, ready to enjoy the Western Nevada musical "White Christmas." Big show, big cast, great music.

But the audience didn't show up. No one but me, except for Stephanie Arrigotti, producer and director and her cast of thousands.I then realized the the WNMCC opens its shows on Saturdays rather then Fridays.

So what, I was there, the orchestra was warming up, the actors were on stage, the house lights were dimmed and there were plenty of seats, so I sat to enjoy a private preview, the dress rehearsal.
