Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space's Interpretive Program hosts fall colors hike

CARSON CITY — Ever wonder why the leaves change color in the fall? Come find out this Saturday, Oct. 20, 9 a.m. on a guided hike from Carson River Park to the Mexican Ditch Trail.

A successful 1st guided Full Moon hike for Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space

On Saturday, Sept. 22, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space hosted its first full moon guided hike at Prison Hill. While the department does have multiple guided hikes throughout the season, this was the first hike guided during the full moon.

Wednesday in Carson City: Food trucks and the County Fair

It’s not lions and tigers and bears down at Fuji Park, it’s bunnies and chickens, lambs and calves. The Carson City Fair has returned and it’s bringing all the excitement that one can expect from a down-home event. The talented kids in our regional 4-H programs will be showing off their hard work, carnival rides will be whirling, and the music will be playing. Our local bus, the JAC, is lending a hand and offering free rides through Sunday: Route 3 will take you from downtown to Fuji Park. Food truck lovers won’t want to miss out on Wheeled Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center.

The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Let me tell you, downtown is going to be hopping, not to mention the Early Season Farmers Market making its seasonal debut in the parking lot at W. Musser and N. Nevada – just behind Due Sorella. Take the kids down to Bailys Pond at Fuji Park for the annual Tom Brooks Memorial Kids’ Fishing Day. A trip to the train museum comes with the opportunity to ride on the Historic McKeen Motor Car.
