North Lake Tahoe snow transformed into art at Carve Tahoe

The weeklong international snow sculpture contest is specifically geared for spectators who will view firsthand 20-ton blocks of pure snow shaped and carved into breathtaking masterpieces. The competing teams are the best of the best – selected from the event’s top applicants and representing more than 20 countries.

Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau director Candy Duncan to retire

She will officially retire on Jan. 1, she told the board in a letter. During her tenure, Duncan oversaw the transformation of Carson City as a travel destination, changing the tourism paradigm by highlighting the area's rich history and modern amenities as attractive attributes to luring visitors to the capital city.
Motorcycle crash reported off of Clear Creek and Lake Tahoe Golf Club Drive
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/18/2012 - 3:59pmCarson City Fire Department and EMTs have responded this afternoon to a motorcycle crash off of Clear Creek, one mile from Carson City off of Highway 50. The accident was reported to be near Lake Tahoe Golf Club Drive. Care Flight has been called. The accident was reported at 3:46 p.m.
The rider is male, approximately 200 pounds. His condition is unknown at the time. The Nevada Highway Patrol is responding.
Annual Carson City turkey shoot on October 21

The annual event will be held at the Centennial Park archery range, which is east of the Eagle Valley Golf Course. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.
Registration fee is $20 for an adult and children are free. The turkey shoot will begin at 9:00 a.m. The contestants will be shooting at a total of 35 3-D targets at unmarked yardage.
Second annual Ultimate Wing Wars at Carson Station through Sunday

“Last year’s inaugural chicken wing cook-off event was a tremendous success with thousands in attendance,” said Jennifer Russell, Carson Station’s director of marketing. “This is year we’re upping the ante with more wings, more prizes, more music and more fun.”

Soroptimist Stroke to Help needs golfers, sponsors, donations

The tournament is Saturday, September 29, at Eagle Valley Golf Course. Golfers may choose to play either the duffer-friendly East Course or the challenging links-style West Course. Play on both courses will be a 9 a.m. Shotgun start, with a Scramble format. Millennium Bugs to Perform Sept. 7 at Silver Oak in Carson City

The musicians are Gil Linsley, trumpet; Dan Lancaster, sax, flute, clarinet; David Bugli, keyboard; Charles DiLaura, bass; and Neil Strocchio, drums. The group plays a variety of jazz styles for listening and dancing.
Edgewood Lodge project unanimously approved by Lake Tahoe planning leaders
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 08/23/2012 - 9:29pmLake Tahoe planning leaders gave their approval Thursday to a paradigm changing project at the South Shore, which would allow for a high-end resort complex at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, the site of the American Century Championship.
The governing board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency unanimously approved the Edgewood Tahoe Lodge and Golf Course realignment project that will make way for the 154-room lodge. Construction could begin in 2014, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

While on that 11-day (June 18 – June 28) adventure in the Far North, Elaine and I traveled a total of six days in the “Bush,” convoying with our longtime, good friends, Barry and Susan Drury of Watson Lake, Yukon.
The Drurys were in their four-wheel drive camper pickup and we traveled in a 19-foot motorhome that had been rented in Whitehorse.

South Lake Tahoe Mayor Claire Fortier and Edgewood's CEO and president Chuck Scharer gladly cut the ribbon after months of negotiations allowing for future property and building rights in exchange for the public park.
Celebrate History of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce

The event begins at 5:30 P.M. with a no host cocktail reception, followed by a barbeque. At 7 P.M., the program begins installation of the 2012 – 2013 Board.

Pablo Cruise headlines A Concert Under the Stars Wednesday

Jenkins performed four years ago for the inaugural event, which takes place at Café at Adele’s, but his love of music began at a tender age.
“My folks had an old pump organ and I couldn’t reach the pedals,” Jenkins said. “I’d play and my sister would pump the pedals for me; I always had an ear and a love for music.”
Carson High School Class of '82 - 30 year reunion

Supervisors to tackle Nugget Project ballot question, golf course audit, collective bargaining agreements on Thursday

The biggest and possibly most contentious item will be the final approval of the Carson City Center aka Nugget Project ballot question. The Supervisors are expected to vote on the final wording of the question, as well as statements regarding the fiscal and environmental impacts. (See the wording attached below). This item is scheduled to be discussed during the afternoon session at approximately 2 p.m.

“North Lake Tahoe is unique in that we have a series of fireworks events held throughout the region,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association. “Visitors to the area can take their pick in terms of when and where or enjoy more than one show during their stay.”
