Senator Square: Carson High School homecoming is here

The excitement at Carson High School right now is off the chart as every student prepares for Homecoming and all the fun and festivities that come along with its arrival. Beginning at 1 p.m., every student in the school hustled to the CHS big gym to prepare for and celebrate everything from the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes to the upcoming crowning of the 2016 Homecoming Queen and King.

Senator Square: Linking freshman students to a fulfilling Carson High School career

At Carson High School, they are appropriately named Link Crew, also known as the Boomerang Project, and they are one of the most underappreciated yet profoundly beneficial programs at CHS.

Senator Square: CHS family made up of artists and cheerleaders, mountain bikers to band members

Carson High School offers more than an amazing education, it provides students from around the capital city with new opportunities every year to participate in multiple clubs, organizations and events. Let's take a look.

Free Shred Day at Greater Nevada Credit Union This Saturday

Event Date:
May 14, 2016 - 9:00am

Greater Nevada Credit Union will host its annual Carson City Shred Day on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will include shredding and recycling services by Offsite Data Depot, American Document Destruction and Computer Corps.

Senator Square: Senior projects and the special effects for everyone involved

The seniors of Carson High School will deliver their Senior Project speeches on April 18. Each student must deliver an 8-12 minute speech in front of 4-5 Carson City Community members, and this is no easy task as, statistically, many fear public speaking more than death.

Senator Square: Scott Vickrey named Carson High School's Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Scott Vickrey, the 2016 CHS Teacher of the Year, and Tami Burgoon, the CHS Classified Employee of the Year for 2016. Becoming Teacher of the Year is no easy task at Carson High School. With 104 teachers, not including other staff members, the CHS Teacher of the Year Award is an accomplishment most teachers will never receive, so winning an award like this required a great many people to say a great thing or two about Scott Vickrey.

Senator Square: A play, plunge, and prom are around the corner

From a visit by Ellen Hopkins, New York Times bestselling author of adult and young adult fiction, to Carson High’s own bestselling author, senior Alec Belle, CHS teachers bring national and local professionals together to share their knowledge with tomorrow’s professionals in order to equip them for the road ahead.

Senator Square: A picture is worth a thousand words

Everyone is on a metaphorical road to another destination every single moment of every single day from sunup to sunup again, and what is done along the way leaves a lasting imprint on both the doer and the receiver.

Like Karsen Law, an unexpected winner in the SkillsUSA photo competition, the students of Carson High School are continuously coming up with the unexpected and creating memorable opportunities for not only students to participate but the Carson City community as well.

All entries were judged and the 1st place winner was Athena Favero, who received a $200 Amazon Gift Card. Second place and a $100 Amazon Gift Card went to Michael Rose. As part of the contest, Athena painted her winning design "A Senator’s Road To Success” on the hallway wall outside the GNCU branch at CHS. 5th Annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

The 5th annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk was a tremendous success with turn-out of 113 participants. The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.

The complete race results can be found by clicking here. Thanks to the Tahoe Mountain Milers who provided the chip-set timing system, and special thanks to Steve Lang for setting up and running the system.

Senator Square: Carson High staff and students lead by giving through the holidays

This is the season for giving. Our students and staff at CHS have big hearts. Many Carson High School clubs and teams adopted families from the Empire School District for the Christmas holiday. Thank you to HOSA, FBLA, Boys’ basketball, boy’s baseball, Key Club, Link Crew, and Leadership classes for providing gifts and essentials to these families.
