Enjoy the Carson High Orchestra during their Fall Concert at the Bob Boldrick Theater tonight at 7 p.m. It’s Adult Coloring Night at the Carson City Library: bring your favorite doodle book, or choose from one of theirs. Know-it-alls can strut their stuff during DJ Trivia at Fox Brewpub, or at the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint.

Carson City emergency crews are responding to a motorcycle accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 580, according to reports from emergency dispatch.

Meet in the parking lot of the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center at 1860 Russell Way. Water and closed-toed shoes required. Tuesday’s Hike Program are evening hikes of 4-6 miles in length with an elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail.

If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

A 29-year-old man was arrested Saturday for felony suspicion of being a convicted person in possession of body armor and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

You’ll see some pretty interesting vehicles on the road these next few days, as travelers from all over head to Burning Man. If you aren’t off to the Playa yourself, there will be plenty of fun around town to keep you and your family occupied. The second annual Family Fun Day in Mills Park is your best bet for kids of all ages. This week’s free concert at Brewery Arts Center features the Dusty Green Bones. Don’t forget your dancing shoes; they’re sure to keep you on your feet.

Trash Mobs are a grassroots community effort coordinated by Muscle Powered volunteers to keep the walkways and bike paths around Carson City free of litter.

The monthly, one-hour events take place at various locations around town that are in need of cleaning. Volunteers, who are supplied with work gloves and trash bags by Muscle Powered staff, remove litter from areas often used by citizens for recreational purposes such as walking, jogging or cycling.

There are some things that one never thinks they will see in their lifetime. I must admit, the Carson City Freeway was one of those things. But lo and behold, the new 580 extension opened its last leg to traffic yesterday. The hot summer temperatures continue, so seek indoor entertainment during the day and keep cool.

With all the celebratory fanfare last month, Wednesday morning brought a much-anticipated and collective welcome refrain of "finally" for Carson City area motorists who have patiently waited for the last leg opening of the I-580 freeway.

With no official date announced yet for opening up the final section of the Interstate 580 bypass through Carson City, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has said it hopes to have traffic flowing the entire length of the freeway next week.

Commuters may experience minor delays on eastbound Fairview Drive in the area of I- 580 as well as southbound I-580 at Fairview Drive and associated surface streets.

Thousands of people turned out Saturday morning to celebrate the near-completion of the much-anticipated Carson City Interstate 580 freeway bypass riding their bicycles, walking, jogging or skating on top of the pavement that will soon carry tens of thousands of vehicles upon it when open next month.

It’s almost like Christmas Day for some of us locals: the long awaited Taste of Downtown has finally arrived. Food, drink, live music, rubbing elbows with friends and neighbors, and a new wine-tasting add-on make this one of the best parties of the year. The morning brings an unparalleled opportunity: you’ve got one chance to walk, run, or bike right down the middle of the freeway before the new bypass is open to vehicle traffic alone. Grab your favorite four-legged friend and head to Adele’s: Dining for Dog Town is a delicious way to help out this amazing rescue organization.

It was pointed out to me that this is a week full of palindromes – a bit of fun word play with something that is the same forward and backwards. The Nevada Department of Transportation is inviting community members to take part in a free fun walk, run and ride celebrating the upcoming opening of the last leg of the Interstate 580 Carson City Freeway.

Carson City emergency units responded to a single vehicle rollover accident reported at around 6 a.m. Saturday along on Old U.S. Highway 395 adjacent to the Interstate 580 freeway and about a half mile north of the county line.

Meet in the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center's parking lot at 1860 Russell Way.Water and closed-toed shoes required. Hats and sunscreen recommended.

Easy Walk Program: Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration.

All walks can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. The Muscle Powered calendar is a pubic calendar and you can add it to your Google calendar by clicking on the “Google Calendar” and follow the instructions.

Meet in front of the Starbucks at 3325 Retail Drive off College Parkway. Water and closed-toed shoes required. Hats and sunscreen recommended. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

Crews are putting the final polish on the last stretch of freeway that will complete the Carson Bypass. Tentative plans are to open for a run-walk and bike tour for area residents July 22. The final stretch won't open to traffic until the first week of August.

Current Nevada law requires drivers to slow down, proceed with caution, and if possible, move to the far lane when passing official emergency response vehicles pulled over on the side of the road with amber lights flashing. Effective Saturday, July 1, an updated law requires drivers to also do the same for Nevada Department of Transportation vehicles.
