In rural Nevada, many teens and children need a safe, temporary living situation, so Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is inviting the community to learn about becoming a foster caregiver by attending pre-service foster parent training, Friday, Sept. 21 through Sunday, Sept. 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Lake and Tahoe Rooms, 801 E. Williams Avenue in Fallon.

Nevada Humane Society program provides inmates with motherless kittens

Picture this. A group of male prisoners (big, burly guys) and a group of tiny, tabby kittens (weighing about three ounces), meeting each other for the first time at the Warm Springs Correctional Center. It’s early evening, the sun is setting and everyone is settling in for the night. It’s calm and quiet.

Suddenly the men are alert, turning all warm and fuzzy, cooing and using baby talk — they are melting at the sight of newborn kittens. Don’t judge, you would react this way too.

You’ll find the Remains at Westside Pour House, and Jaime Rollins keeps it rollin at Living the Good Life. Just Sayin’ is this months featured talent in the Brewery Arts Center’s Eclectic Electric Series.

Enjoy a nice dinner tonight, complete with live music, if you head to Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, Glen Eagles, or Living the Good Life. The Carson City Symphony is looking for bassoons, French horns, and violas to join them at rehearsals tonight.

PetSmart National Adoption Weekend is coming up Nov. 15 and 16 and Carson Tahoe SPCA will be hosting their very own Kitten Bowl at the Carson City PetSmart. They will be in the training arena both days with a couple of adorable kitten teams all trying to win your heart. Plan on stopping by, do a little cheering and maybe you'll fall in love with one of the outstanding players. Game time is 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.
