Moving into Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, there's another chance for thunderstorms headed our way and then a bit of a cool down going into the weekend. Looking around the capital city Thursday there's a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, auditions for V&T Railway's Polar Express, art showings, a host of activities at the Carson City Library, a Muscle Powered morning hike and more.

Heading into midweek, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019 and there's a chance of thunderstorms around the capital city with a cool down expected for the weekend. Looking ahead there's a new writer's group meeting — all aspiring wordsmiths welcome, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, art demonstrations and more. Enjoy the day.

Going into Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, we're looking at sunshine and temperatures in the low 90s. Events around the capital city include a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a scary makeup demonstration at the Brewery Arts Center and the 1946 version of "The Postman Always Rings Twice," presented by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. The Commemorative Air Force B-17 Sentimental Journey will be in Douglas County at the Minden-Tahoe Airport arriving Tuesday, Sept. 3. The aircraft will be available for tours and flights, daily through Sept. 8.

The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the most recognized WII bombers flying over Europe with the 8th Air Force out of England. It was made famous in movies like "Twelve O'Clock High" and "Command Decision."

Happy Fathers’ Day Carson City. The Reno Rodeo is a great way to spend the day with your progeny. The Pow Wow continues at the Stewart Indian School, and Epic Rides is still downtown. Enjoy an afternoon at the golf course: a free family golf clinic is at Eagle Valley. Head to Heritage Park in Gardnerville for a car show celebrating the Great Race.

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. SATURDAY:

It's Friday, Carson City. Epic Rides descends on our valley, and I must say, it is one epic event. Beware that quite a few of our downtown streets will be closed and there will be bikes everywhere. Live music can be found at a stage on Musser Street, the Brewery Arts Center, and most all of our casinos. A huge welcome goes out to those in town for the Annual Pow Wow at Stewart Indian School. Don't forget that Fathers' Day is Sunday: plenty of our local shops have something just perfect for the man in your life.

FRIDAY:

Step into the past today: the Pony Express re-ride is coming through town. It’s anticipated around 2 p.m. and you can follow their path online HERE. World War II buffs are going to love the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport; you have until Sunday afternoon to see the planes. Head to Telegraph Square downtown for the first Community Art Night sponsored by Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and the Charlie B. Gallery.

In honor of WWII veterans, the Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour returns to the Minden Tahoe Airport next month again bringing rare bomber and fighter aircraft living history displays as part of its 110-city nationwide tour.

Plane lovers and history buffs are in for a treat today. A rare B-17 bomber is making a stop at the Carson City Airport and will be available for rides and tours. Dancers can choose from country line dance at Carson Lanes or swing dance at El Charro Avita. Capital Eats inside of Westside Pour House just started a Tuesday night Basque dinner, but you’ll want to call for reservations and information on this week’s menu. Get your wing fix Firkin and Fox: it’s all you can eat chicken wings today. Save room for dessert, though, National Ice Cream Cone Day is worth celebrating.

For America's young men 70 years ago, their thoughts weren't on college and careers. They were focused on survival and a battle bigger than any of them individually during World War II.

It’s the first Wednesday which means that Comma Coffee is hosting an art reception for their Backseat Gallery. Don’t miss the exhibit by Su Limbert in the Legislative Gallery, the session is over and the exhibit closes at the end of the week. While you’re downtown head over to the BRIC building on Proctor for the BRIC Art 5 exhibit. By the Nevada State Museum you’ll find the Nevada Arts Council: their gallery is exhibiting Pasha Rashat.

Today is National Leave the Office Early Day, so get out and enjoy the day if you can: play some golf, wander around an art exhibit, or join up with Muscle Powered on their weekly hike. It’s National Say Something Nice Day which can be a little difficult on a Monday, but the sun is shining, June has begun, and the Legislature is on its final day: I’m sure you can find something. Head out to the Minden-Tahoe Airport and check out the WWII-era planes on display as part of the Wings of Freedom tour. Or enjoy some time with your shoes off in one of Carson City’s many parks: it’s also National Go Barefoot Day.

In honor of WWII veterans, the Wings of Freedom Tour will make a return stop the first three days in June at the Minden-Tahoe Airport as part of their 110-day U.S. tour, airport officials announced Friday. The World War II aviation museum visited the airport last year.
