2014 winners of 21st annual Taste of Downtown Carson City

Here are the winners of the 21st annual Taste of Downtown Carson City. Saturday's event, which brought thousands to the downtown area and had more than 40 restaurants represented in the mix, was the main fundraiser for Advocates to End Domestic Violence. The winners were voted on by ticket holders of the main event.

Firkin Friday's summer outdoor concert series kicks off with Baker Street

The Firkin & Fox Carson City kicks off its summer concert series this Friday, June 6, with local rock n' roll favorite Baker Street beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Known for churning out the classics from the 1970s and 80's, Baker Street has developed a loyal Northern Nevada fan base, with its guitar-driven licks and crisp vocal stylings. There's no better way to celebrate summer than with music that rocks to it.

The Firkin Friday's outdoor concert is at 310 South Carson Street. There will be plenty of food, barbecue and drink specials going on inside.

Carson City dignitaries gather for annual bike ride through town

Carson City elected leaders and officials including new city manager-designate Nick Marano lined pedaled the west side of town Monday morning for the annual Carson City "Celebrity" bike ride.

Hosted by Carson City bicycle group Muscle Powered, the spirited group of cyclists dusted off their bikes and shared the road with motorists as part of a month of activities planned through the bicycle advocacy group Muscle Powered.

Bike Month has been celebrated for many years now not only to encourage more bicycling in Carson City, but also to educate cyclists and motorists alike on safety and the rules of the road. Carson City Supervisor Brad Bonkowski to hold three informational meetings

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold three informational meetings in March. The first, his monthly “Breakfast with Brad,” takes place Friday, March 7, at 7:30 am at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to attend and ask questions or provide input about Carson City issues.

Buy a pie and feed a family, Carson City. With just a few days before Thanksgiving, the "Pie to the Rescue" campaign is down to its final 33 pies. Join Capital Christian Center in supporting families in need this holiday season as dozens of Northern Nevada’s best chefs, from local restaurants, donate their time and talent to bake fabulous Thanksgiving pies for the 3rd Annual Pie to the Rescue.

HopeFest outdoor concert Friday in Downtown Carson City to benefit local cancer patients

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation announces HopeFest 2013, an outdoor concert offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

The outdoor event featuring the band Notch 8 takes place on Friday, October 4 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. outside of the Firkin & Fox restaurant on Third Street in Carson City. The event was rescheduled due to hazardous air conditions caused by the California Rim Fire.

This is a 90-minute guided walking tour leaves rain or shine. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the walk begins. The next walk is Sept. 21, 6:30 p.m.

Search and Rescue Geocache Adventure a Big Success

On April 27th approximately 80 entrants competed in the Annual Geocache Adventure to help raise funds for the purchase of improved radio equipment for the unit. Entrants of all ages, using GPS and maps competed in a modern day treasure hunt in various public areas of Carson City.

Participants located tokens that were redeemed for poker hands and prizes at Bully’s after the event.

February beer crawl in Carson City set for Feb. 16

The next installment of the Carson City Beer Crawl is set for Feb. 16. Tickets are $10. Participants will receive a wrist band, map and glass to use for $1 refills of 6 ounce samples at multiple downtown Carson City locations.

If you like beer and enjoy good Carson City company, you can pick up your beer glasses beginning at 11am the day of the event at High Sierra Brewing Co. If you have your glass from the previous event, it's only $5.

The Beer Crawl starts at High Sierra Brewing Co., 302 N Carson St. on the corner of Proctor and Main street.

Opinion: Carson City Mayor's Visit to the CC Men's Club — a discussion of the Master Plan for downtown

The Mayor of Carson City was the guest at this week's meeting of the Carson City Men's Club. Per prior agreement he did not give a prepared speech, and after a glowing introduction that gave a brief highlight of his impressive history of accomplishments, he fielded questions from his audience.

The now Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, founding member of iconic rock band The Jefferson Airplane and of long-touring band Hot Tuna and legendary guitarist in his own right, plays High Sierra Brewing Company, Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. in a show produced by Chili Bop Entertainment.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is pleased to announce net proceeds of over $50,000 for their 2nd Annual Carson City HopeFest fundraiser. This is an increase over last year’s net earnings of $37,000 and like last year, one hundred percent of these proceeds go towards local cancer patients seeking treatment in Carson City. Currently, the CTH Foundation is the only non-profit organization focused on supporting Carson area cancer patients with living expenses.

HopeFest tonight to benefit Carson City area cancer patients

Hope and the promise of it for hundreds of Carson City area cancer patients lands on the lawn of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center today. HopeFest, an annual benefit concert that will feature the music of Mo5aic and The Cutters, is one of the Carson City's biggest fundraising events with 100 percent of the money raised going directly to supports local cancer patients in need.

The Rotary Club of Carson City and High Sierra Brewing Company presents the Beer and Pizza Championships, March 31 at Carson Mall.

Come and taste the best beer and pizza in the region, and vote for your favorite. You can also enjoy the Final Four on TV at the same time, or take part in basketball shooting contests. There will be a live auction for trips and events, a silent auction for great local gifts, and a drawing for a Samuel Adams trip to Boston.

Paradise Lost: Restaurant in Carson Mall closes

Over the weekend, the Paradise Cove Cafe in Carson Mall closed its doors, the end to a labor of love for owners Doug and Jamesa Cramer.

"Relieved" was the first word Doug said when I asked him how he was doing. The efforts to keep the restaurant in business over the last year and 10 months had clearly taken a toll.

Gold's Gym IHEAL A Thon

Gold's Gym is holding a fundraiser to benefit the victims directly affected by the IHOP tragedy. There are numerous events that we will be doing that day. Among them are: a dunk tank donated by Kemp's Fun Jumpers. The Mayor is going to be in that dunk tank between noon and 1 pm. We have Firkin Fox doing BBQ. There will be a DJ and a popcorn machine. We are holding a "Sponsor A Slacker". That entails people getting sponsored to come to a 45 minute class designed to kick their tails! There is also a "Spin A Thon". Sponsor sheets are available at Gold's Gym.

This week's music lineup continues as Jazz! Carson City 2011 has several shows planned in the coming days. Jazz! Carson City is a month-long festival hosted by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers.
