Carson City Symphony's Strings in Schools presents Dec. 3 performance of 'This is Not a Christmas Concert'

Strings in the Schools, Carson City Symphony's after-school program, presents its fourth annual "This is Not a Christmas Concert" on Tuesday, December 3, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., Carson City.

More than 100 string players, including Carson City public-, private-, and home-schooled students, and students from surrounding areas, will perform several pieces, from classics to folk and fiddle tunes, including Karl Jenkins' Palladio: Concerto Grosso for String Orchestra, Let's Boogey, and Flop Eared Mule. Admission is free.

The dance starts at 7:30PM. New-dancer orientation starts at 7:15PM.

Contra dancing is similar to line dancing and square dancing, and it's always done to LIVE music. It's easy to learn, and a caller calls out all the dance moves. It's fun, sociable and aerobic.

Naughty, but hilarious comedy skits and music from vaudeville and burlesque will be presented in "A Handful Of Nickels " at 7pm on Friday, June 21 and 2pm and 7pm on Saturday, June 22 at historic Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City.

The show features musician/actor Larry Elliott, who has appeared on 'Days of Our Lives’ and in the Oscar nominated movie "The Cooler" with William H. Macy. Multi-talented Larry plays guitar, piano, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and harmonica, but not all at the same time!

Strings in Schools concert to feature music of Jay Ungar and Molly Mason

Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools led by Carson City Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch present a festival featuring the Music of Jay Ungar and Molly Mason on Saturday, May 11.

The concert will be at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. It includes a workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for string players of all ages, a potluck lunch, and a public concert beginning at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the festival and the concert is free, donations welcome.

Bluegrass and Old Time Style Music for Beginners (6wks)

“Steve Kaufman Acoustic Camp” in Maryville, Tennessee.

Trio keeps Irish music alive; performs Saturday at Adele's

Enjoy a traditional St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Saturday, March 16, with a hearty helping of live music by Cíana and corned beef and cabbage dinner served at Café at Adele’s.

The fun is planned for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and includes a variety of songs and tunes, two very different things according to Joe Blye (vocals, whistles and guitar), who, with his wife Kathy Blye (guitar and octave mandolin) and Tina Carlsen (fiddle and backing vocals), are Cíana.

General admission tickets are still available for Jorma Kaukonen’s performance this Thursday, Oct. 18 at The High Sierra Brewing Company in Carson City. Kaukonen, a founding member of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, is one of the most highly respected interpreters of Americana, Blues and American roots music. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy his music in an intimate, up close setting. The show begins at 8:00pm, doors open at 7 pm.
