The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1976, will present Men of Worth on Friday night, March 17 in the Black Box Theater.

Men of Worth was formed in 1986 by Scotsman Donnie Macdonald and Irishman James Keigher who came together to perform Irish and Scottish folk music, combining traditional and contemporary styles.

Journalist Frank X. Mullen will channel a colleague from the past March 3 at the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase when he offers a presentation on “Dan DeQuille, The Washoe Giant.”

DeQuille was a compatriot of Sam Clemens, aka Mark Twain, when both worked at the Territorial Enterprise in the 1860s. However, unlike Twain, DeQuille stayed on the Comstock for more than 30 years, and didn’t achieve the fame of his fellow journalist Twain.

It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Mile High Jazz Band, Carson High Jazz Band, and Carson Middle School Jazz Band present the 14th annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City.

Reading the creative works of famous science fiction writers was only half of the class requirements for Mary Gillespie’s English class students this fall semester at Western Nevada College. The other part of the class tapped into the artistic creativity of her students.

Creating more public art and arts festivals along with more collaboration among artist groups were among the suggestions presented at the Arts Town Meeting on Tuesday evening at the Brewery Arts Center.

Big Sam's Funky Nation is headed to Crystal Bay for a free concert in the Crystal Bay Casino's Crown Room on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 10 p.m.

The Wired Wednesday group has a workshop for filmmakers in time for the upcoming creepy film festival and competition. It's hard to miss the new 'Home Means Nevada' mural on the side of CAL Ranch at Winnie Lane; the opening ceremony for our newest piece of art is at 2 p.m.

In preparation of this year's Carson Creepy Short Horror Film competition, Wired Wednesday is hosting a series of free mini workshops focused on the various aspects of filmmaking. Open to the public. All are welcome to attend.

A small town girl trying to make it big in Tinseltown.

It's a story that goes back nearly a century, when the silver screen drew as many starry-eyed dreamers to the film capital of the world as it did audiences to movie houses.

The weekend has arrived and there are festivals everywhere. A Basque Festival and Picnic can be found in Gardnerville. Bowers Mansion hosts a Bluegrass Festival for the 31st year. Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival returns to King Beach for the weekend. The Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has infiltrated the whole valley with musicians. Levitt AMP Carson City free music series concludes this Saturday night with the West Coast's hottest Brazilian band, SambaDá, taking the outdoor stage at the Brewery Arts Center.

Head down to the Brewery Arts Center this Saturday night for an unforgettable free concert under the stars. As with every Saturday night concert, there will be food and drink on hand as well as kid’s activities and fun for the whole family. Thanks to a National award from the Levitt Foundation, the Brewery Arts Center has been able to bring in National caliber entertainers every week this summer.

Hawaiian music, its melody as gentle as a swaying tropical breeze, floated off the stage and around the Marv Teixeira Pavilion at Mills Park Saturday afternoon to the delight of visitors at the first-ever Polynesian Festival in Carson City.

The Brewery Arts Center, in partnership with the Municipality of Carson City and the Levitt Amp Foundation, is introducing a brand-new live music concert series to the Nevada state capital starting Saturday, June 4 and running ten consecutive weeks through August 6.

Performing the best of Cole Porter to Stevie Wonder, the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s 17-piece jazz band will present “Music of the Masters” - a live performance of blues, swing, and soul with award winning vocalists Jamie Davis and Clairdee on Friday, September 2 at the Robert Z Hawkins Amphitheatre in Reno, NV, and Saturday, September 3rd, at Sand Harbor State Park on the edge of Lake Tahoe’s north shore.

Tickets for Music of the Masters can be purchased on line at RenoJazzOrchestra.org. These family-friendly two-hour concerts start at 7:30 p.m.

Olympic champion Jamie Anderson from South Lake Tahoe will be part of 20th Boarding for Breast Cancer Snowboard and Music Festival, Shredding the Love this Saturday at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort.

The inspiration behind B4BC was a young woman named Monica Steward, co-founder of Bonfire, who at was diagnosed with breast cancer the age of 26 and passed away in 1996 at the age of 29.

As snow continues to fall in the Sierra, the Business Association Chamber Collaborative, a sub-committee of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association is proud to announce the creation of the “Touch Lake Tahoe Secrets” interactive online map. VIRGINIA CITY — Local celebrity and cowboy music performer John Tyson will bring his “American Cowboy” show back to the Gold Hill Hotel on Thursday, Feb. 18, as part of the Gold Hill Hotel’s Thursday Night Presentation Series.

Tyson, a Vietnam veteran, has worked as a law enforcement officer, range manager, working cowboy, train engineer, entertainer and journalist. He is best known regionally as a former reporter for KOLO-TV Channel 8.

But he is also well known for his cowboy songs and poetry, and stories about cowboys of the Old West.
