Dia de los Muertos: Creating Cultural Connections in Carson City

The Nevada State Museum and Western Nevada College in Carson City are once again teaming up to present a Day of the Dead community celebration on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the museum.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and admission is free. Activities include performances by Mexican and Aztec folkloric dancers, an exhibition of altars, and Day of the Dead crafts including sugar skull decorating and face painting for youngsters.

Carson City again welcomes the Fathers’ Day PowWow to the Stewart Indian School Campus for a weekend of dancing, vendors and crafts, and community. You’ll find downtown road-closures to make way for the race routes, a bike expo, beer garden, and a music festival on Saturday. The popular 4-H Fabric and Rummage sale returns to Carson City’s Fuji Park Exhibit Hall at 701 Old Clear Creek Road this weekend, Feb. 3-4.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, the sale is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visit the sale days for great bargains; most fabric starts at a dollar per yard. Residents still have opportunities to donate unwanted, clean rummage items and fabric to 4-H.

Outdoor summer concert series returns to Carson City in 2018

The Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation on Tuesday named Carson City as one of 15 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25,000 in matching funds to present a free concert series at the Minnesota Street Stage. The Brewery Arts Center has been a recipient of the grant for the third straight year.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. We invite children and families to experience our new IMAGINATIONS Children's Art Program. This program is designed to offer children a variety of art classes taught by professional art instructors as well as offer family retreats to create artwork together. Our Saturday Art Classes are held once each month with each teaching a different topic or discipline.
