The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces its exhibition, "Photo Finished 2021", at the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City through March 25, 2021.

Thirteen seniors from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit which is available online at ccainv.org.

CARSON CITY — The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum announced Thursday it is reopening to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 19, the day after the nation celebrates Martin Luther King Day.

With the new year, a new set of laws is once again taking effect.

Of the hundreds of bills the Legislature passed in 2019, nine finally became effective either in whole or in part on Friday with the start of the new year and as the next legislative session is set to begin in February.

The Capital City Arts Initiative and Western Nevada College present "Metallum Terrae" an exhibition by Kyle Karrasch in the college’s Bristlecone Gallery, 2201 W College Parkway, Carson City now through Dec. 17, 2020. The gallery is open to the public, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Relaunch", by artist Mark Brandvik at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 2, 2020 – January 28, 2021.

The Capital City Arts Initiative and Western Nevada College present "Ink, Paper, Print" an exhibition with work by 12 regional artists in the college’s Bristlecone Gallery, 2201 W College Parkway, Carson City.

Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce the opening of the Nevada Humanities Major Project Grants that are part of their FY2021 Nevada Humanities Project Grants to Support Public Humanities Projects. These Major Project Grants have a public humanities project focus and will support larger-scale public humanities projects statewide that range from one month to one year to implement.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "H2O 2020", with work by eight Great Basin artists at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery: Cyndy Brenneman, Vanessa Martinez, Nolan Preece, Nancy Raven, Craig Sheppard, Dylan Silver, Cathryne Trachok, and Candida Webb. The exhibition will be in the gallery through Sept. 24, 2020.

SILVER CITY, Nev. — The Resident Artist Program in Silver City announced that their summer visiting artist is Kerry Rossow, an Illinois-based author, performer, and co-founder of the She Said Project.

The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum received approval of a grant from the Western States Arts Federation CARES Act Fund in the amount of $20,000.

The Capital City Arts Initiative’s illustrated talk, Women Artists of the Great Basin, by Reno artist and author, Mary Lee Fulkerson, is now available online. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series; all future talks will be recorded and presented online.

Prism Photographics announces a major change to the current art gallery to become Carson Valley’s premier art gallery. The new Art Gallery@Prism, located inside the old Bently Wool Warehouse in Minden, will be featuring up to 30 regional artists from communities of Northern Nevada to the Sierra Nevada.

The Carson City Department of Arts & Culture in partnership with First Lady Kathy Sisolak on Thursday proudly announced its inaugural Arts Initiative exhibition, “The First Lady Presents … Ronnie Rector,” at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion.

Heading into Tuesday, activities around the capital city area include a meeting of the Carson City School Board, a gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a free presentation in Gardnerville that focuses on understanding Alzheimer's and dementia, plus a showing of the documentary about social media, "Like" in Reno, art exhibitions, and more.

Today, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 is the beginning of a new year, a new decade and also a new set of laws. More than 70 laws enacted by the Nevada Legislature last year take effect either in whole or in part today.

They include several major health care initiatives — including a ban on surprise emergency room bills, a tax on vaping products and a requirement that hospitals use patients’ preferred names and pronouns — as well as laws that will benefit employees, including paid sick leave.

Nevada Humanities will hold a series of free informational grant meetings in Henderson, Las Vegas, Reno, and Elko in January 2020. These meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more about applying for project grant funding from Nevada Humanities.

Nevada Humanities offers grants of up to $5,000 to nonprofit organizations and government entities, such as libraries and schools, to fund public and educational programs in the humanities.

Silver City Arts group's Saturday, Dec. 7 holiday event from noon to 4pm includes music by cellists Diane Kotik and Becky Crowe, a holiday craft activity for all ages led by Erich and Chali Haugen, and complimentary sweets.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents an exhibition, "Faces and Places" by nine northern Nevada artists in the Community Center’s Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition runs through February 27, 2020. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room; the artists will give brief talks about their work at 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a public talk, "Nevada’s Ancient Rock Art: Art for All Times" by archeologist Pat Barker, Ph.D. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series.

The Fall visiting artist with the Resident Artist Program in Silver City is Allison Rasmussen of Carson City.

Valedictorian of the 2018 graduating class at Argent Preparatory Academy, Rasmussen studied art at Western Nevada College through their early college entry program and completed her Associate of Arts degree at 18.

SILVER CITY, Nev. — Poet David Lee was a visiting artist at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and will be back again this winter. His repeated stays in the historic Comstock town inspired his latest book of poems, Mine Tailings. It is dedicated to the people of Silver City. The book was released by 5 Sisters Press this Fall, and will be the focus of Lee’s reading at the Silver City Schoolhouse (community center) on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.

While haze from nearby Sierra fires may linger some, we're looking at another pleasant fall day around the capital city heading into Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Events locally include a ribbon cutting and outdoor moving showing at the new Schulz Ranch Park, workshops, a women's safety meeting, a pumpkin patch for kids at Carson Mall, plus art showings and public talks. On Wednesday, October 16, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a public talk, “Why Did You Choose Justin Favela?” by Nevada Museum of Art’s curator, JoAnne Northrup. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series and will take place at 5:30pm at the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Northrup preceding the event at 5pm. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos" by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition is in the gallery now through Jan. 29, 2020, at the Courthouse, 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The exhibition is free and the public is cordially invited. The second-floor gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
