The next "Ideas On Tap" in downtown Carson City is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Battle Born Social Lounge, 318 N. Carson Street.

What’s happened to us? Many citizens of Carson City were whining after the results of the June 5 primary, even the complacent “registered” 3,305 non-voters, who didn’t brave the sunny weather.

An initiative to allow eligible citizens to automatically register to vote while at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles takes form in this election year’s Question 5. The indirect initiative was approved along partisan lines, but Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed the initiative, choosing instead for the issue to go to a public vote.

As we head into our first full week of fall, sunny skies and a cool evening are on tap for this Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018. Among today's events are a morning walk and evening hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a chamber luncheon that focuses on Nevada Ballot Question 3 and the showing of the film "Westward the Women" by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums, American Association of University Women Capital NV Branch, PFLAG Carson Region, Partnership Carson City, and Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition will present a series of election forums on October 8, 9, 15, and 16.

In the upcoming midterm election Nevada voters will be faced a question of tax exemption. If adopted, Question 2 would create a state and local sales tax exemption for feminine hygiene products.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Supervisory Association has endorsed Ryan Russell for Carson City Justice of the Peace, Department 2.

After months of campaigning and millions of dollars expended on ads and voter outreach, Nevada’s primary election is finally here. Not only will the results of today’s election set in place the top contests on the November ballot, including one of the most closely watched U.S. Senate battles in the country and an open gubernatorial seat, but many important races will be effectively decided based on Tuesday’s results.

If you didn’t take advantage of early voting, then today is the day to cast that Primary ballot. The local library can be your best friend during summer vacation; Carson City celebrated the kick-off to their summer program on Sunday, while the library in Minden will host a party this evening to get the summer events started. The State Library and Archives have started a new lunchtime program. Join them for Archives Appetizer, a monthly speaker program that will cover different topics of Nevada History. School let out and summer wasted no time getting to the fun stuff. This weekend will bring the Revival Car Show and the annual Capital City Brewfest downtown, in addition to a wine walk at the Carson Mall and the Fair/Rendezvous at Mills Park. Early voting for the 2018 Nevada primary election began Saturday at the Carson City Courthouse, 885 E. Musser Street in Carson City.

Gary Schmidt will be allowed to keep up his state Senate run — for now. The Nevada Supreme Court on Friday ruled Republican primary election voters in state Senate District 16 could cast a ballot for Schmidt ahead of a July 9 hearing at the state’s highest court.

Early voting begins Saturday. Carson City Elections Deputy Aubrey Rowlatt said this will be the first time the new voting machines are used in an election.
