Over the last few years Dayton Urgent Care has been giving back to the community and has partnered with Terri Gahr, who works in the schools and is the Dayton Area Resource Coordinator of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties. The organization has been a big help with DUC's clothing drives, Angel trees and the healthy hygiene kits we collect.

The community is cordially invited to the third annual Nowruz “New Year” Celebration Feast to benefit Veterans Healing Camp on Saturday, March 30 from 5-10 p.m. at the Casino Fandango Grand Ballroom in Carson City.

A brief history and overview of calligraphy followed by practice with samples of popular current styles. Class will also cover various tools and inks, as well as illumination. Students will complete a text of their choice, suitable for framing. The class is offered through Western Nevada College's Continuing Education program. It is $50. Whether you are a new or continuing watercolor student, learn to splash and play while discovering the expansive possibilities of watercolor at classes offered through Western Nevada College's Continuing Education program.

In each 4-week class, we will explore several different approaches to watercolor. We will also investigate art fundamental topics concentrating on one topic per 4-week session. Students may choose their own subjects, with instructor input as to relevance based on individual skill level.

The Honorable James E. Wilson of the First Judicial District Court will be our guest speaker at Douglas-Carson Legal Professionals' monthly educational meeting at noon on March 6 at Red's Old 395 Grill, 1055 S Carson St., Carson City. Judge Wilson will discuss upcoming changes to the Nevada Rules of Civil procedure.

The Northern Nevada Development Authority is beginning the new year by bringing county managers together for a morning talk about the present and future.

CARSON CITY — The motto at the Veterans Resource Center at Western Nevada College is “Veterans Helping Veterans.” For the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America the rallying cry is “One Generation of Veterans Passing It on to The Next.”

Hello fellow anglers, I hope Santa was good to you. We are within a few days of the Topaz Lake opener, which is this Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. The water level is coming up, but still down from last year's opener.

Carson City educators, students and families have stood together for the last few weeks in efforts to benefit schools in fire-devastated areas of northern California. All individuals involved learned lessons in kindness as well as how small efforts collectively may produce great and impactful outcomes.

Carson City School District has got to be one of the best places on earth to work, this coming from someone who has been here for 18 years. Some may call this hyperbole, but if someone actually took the time to do the research, he would find hyperbole is not the case as further evidence of this may be seen in the following letter written to all teachers within the school district by a friendly, kind, and professional Superintendent, Richard Stokes.

Hello Carson City, do you see what we see? With fresh snow expected in the Sierra overnight and holiday lights around town lighting up the night sky, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. CHS Social Studies teacher Angila Golik, along with teachers Curtis Kortemeier, Mike Malley and John Martin, and a few other teachers, wanting to help the fire victims in Paradise, Calif. have donated completed art pieces to be raffled among teachers and the Carson City community since many of them know someone affected by the fire.

Christmas is getting closer, and in Carson City, that means holiday trains. From the V&T Railway's Polar Express to the Nevada State Railroad Museum's Santa Train, rails around the state capital are busy delivering Saint Nicholas to children and spreading Christmas cheer.

There are only two more Saturdays until Christmas, and Santa Claus is back in Carson City again this weekend ahead of the big holiday.

Great Basin Beekeepers of Nevada, a group of about one hundred local beekeepers, gathered Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Bee Magic Building located in Mound House. Through the efforts of this dynamic organization, Carson City was recently designated as Nevada’s first Bee City USA. It is the 76th Bee City USA.
