A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.
The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. Carson City Holiday with a Hero 2016: Buy-in sought for homeless children Christmas campaign

Dozens of Carson City restaurants will participate in this evening event, giving residents and visitors alike the chance to sample food, dig into unique dishes and get a feel for the vibe of the local cuisine.
Whether it’s burgers, nachos, tamales, or Thai food, participants are likely to find it in downtown Carson City on July 23, the date that “Taste” is scheduled in honor of its 23rd year. Restaurants like “The Thick Slice Pizza,” “Red’s Old 395 Grill,” and “Yang’s Kitchen” are taking part.
First West Nile case of 2016 reported in Carson City, Douglas County areas

The 65-year-old individual confirmed to have West Nile Virus had the more serious form of the illness, which can impact the brain and surrounding tissues.

The restaurant officially opened Feb. 2, said Carson Nugget Director of Operations Tim Morrissey, replacing the Carson Nugget Steakhouse.
Morrissey said Angelina's Italian Bistro is a nod to Carson Nugget owner Dean DiLullo’s family.

Mystique celebrates grand opening

The restaurant, located downtown at 318 N. Carson Street, occupies the space formerly used by Sassafras and B’sghetti’s restaurants. Mystique opened for business in December after the Carson City Board of Supervisors approved its liquor license.
Tuesday’s grand opening celebration included 5-6 different free appetizers, live music, and free champagne to guests.

“We always have such a wonderful welcoming of the New Year and we are happy to have Sherre sing us into it,” said Chef Charlie Abowd.
Local businesses partner with Boys and Girls Clubs to brighten holidays for nearly 40 families
Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/17/2015 - 1:55pmDiane McCoy, director of operations for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, shut the doors of the van that was overflowing with bags and cartons of gifts for the Club’s annual Adopt-a-Family Christmas drive, donated by the Ridge Tahoe EAGLES employees group.
She went back inside to thank the donors, and found she had missed several more boxes full of cleaning supplies, pots and pans, dishes, laundry detergent and gift cards for local grocery stores.
Mystique Restaurant and Lounge to open in December

Owner Yvette Barrett has had her work cut out for her. It has taken three months of major renovations to get the space at 318 North Carson Street — formerly home to the Sassafras restaurant — ready to open the first week of December.
The new upgrades, paint, carpet, fixtures, equipment and flooring are intended to create an atmosphere that is warm, elegant and welcoming, Barrett said.
