Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

The Carson City Historical Society, along with the Mark Twain Garden Club, the Desert Gardeners and the Sierra Desert Garden Club, is holding a Garden Festival on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

JoAnne Skelly column: Hydrangeas in Northern Nevada

Last week I visited with the Desert Gardeners Club in Carson City. I asked the gardeners to give me some ideas for articles. Donna wanted to know how to grow hydrangeas in our area. Hydrangeas are beautiful plants with large deep green leaves, which sometimes provide red fall color. They have spectacular flowers that can be long lasting, even holding their beauty when dried. Some flowers are large balls. Others look like halos of lovely blooms. Some are the size of dinner plates.

Carson City Arbor Day celebration Saturday features treasure hunt, fun run/walk

The Carson City Shade Tree Council and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department will be celebrating Arbor Day this Saturday, April 25th at Long Ranch Park. The ceremony which will begin at 10 a.m. will celebrate Carson City’s 21st year recognition by the National Arbor Day Foundation, out of Nebraska City, Nebraska as a “Tree City USA.”

The Nevada Division of Forestry will be presenting the award to Carson City on behalf of the Foundation. Mayor Bob Crowell will read the Carson City Arbor Day proclamation and a state official will read the Nevada Arbor Day proclamation.

Garden Club to Honor Past Member at Arbor Day Activities
