Northern Nevada women honored as local leaders by Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is pleased to announce this year’s Triumphant: Celebrating Women in Leadership Dinner honorees. Six women, each representing one of the six Girl Scout focus areas, will be recognized at the 17th annual awards dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno.

(Reno, Nev.) – College is nearly back in session, with classes at the University of Nevada, Reno starting Monday, August 27. If your student is heading to the University of Nevada, Reno, here are some safety tips and resources. If they are attending a different college, be sure to review policies and student resources at their school. REMSA would like to remind Reno community members of some basic back to college tips and precautions.

Chrissy Menicucci Named NCJFCJ Director of Development

(Reno, Nev.) – Twenty-year philanthropy and social responsibility professional, Chrissy Menicucci, has been named the new National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges’ (NCJFCJ) director of development.

“We are excited to bring Chrissy on board to further advance the NCJFCJ’s development efforts,” said Joey Orduna Hastings, chief executive officer. “Her experience in the legal field paired with her global philanthropic skills will be valuable assets to elevate the NCJFCJ to the next 80 years of this organization.”

UNR names Kerri Garcia Director of Communications at the University

Kerri Garcia, an award-winning public relations and communications professional, has been named Director of Communications at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Garcia will lead the University’s efforts in internal and external communications, media relations and will serve as the institution’s primary spokesperson.

Garcia, a 1992 graduate of the University who previously was Community Relations and Communications Manager with Microsoft in Reno, begins work on April 1.

Carson City green zone charter adopted

Members of a community advisory panel met Wednesday to adopt a local charter for the state of Nevada's Green Zone Initiative, a statewide effort to bring veteran service providers and other community stakeholders together in a pooling of resources that would make access easier for the state's veteran population.

The panel approved making Carson City one of 10 community green zone councils across the state, calling its local initiative the Carson City Area Veterans Community Council (CCAVCC).

WNC construction management bachelor’s degree takes business approach to success

As the national building industry in Northern Nevada ramps up once again, Western Nevada College’s Construction Management and Construction Technology programs are shifting emphasis to meet the demand for skilled managers.

WNC Construction Management instructor Robert Ford said the college’s Bachelor of Technology Degree program in Construction Management has expanded its focus on the business side of construction.

Nevada wildlife agency launches new outdoor podcast, radio program

The Nevada Department of Wildlife in conjunction with the Reno community radio station KXNV 89.1 FM announces the launch of a weekly, hour-long radio program designed to take an in-depth look at issues impacting wildlife. The program is also available through podcast statewide at NevadaWild.org.

Western Nevada College president Lucey hailed as 'heart and soul' who fought for Northern Nevada higher education

Western Nevada College President Carol Lucey announced that she is retiring from her post Wednesday, following more than 14 years at the helm of the Carson City and Northern Nevada-based college system. The announcement followed an earlier notice to the college community in the summer in which she relayed her intention to retire at some point during the 2013-14 academic year.

Pursuant to Board of Regents Policy, Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Daniel Klaich has designated WNC Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services Chet Burton as the Officer in Charge for WNC.
