It’s a very special Friday for the kids of Carson City: it’s the last day of summer vacation. Take full advantage of your free time and check out some of today’s activities. Live music at McFadden Plaza tonight features local cover band, Deception. The Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival kicks off tonight with a band in the Davis Creek Campground. The U.S. Air Force’s Jazz Ensemble performs at the Bob Boldrick Theater as part of the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Free tickets have been available at the Chamber of Commerce for a few weeks, and if any are left, their numbers will be limited.

The Farmers Markets is the place to be on Thursday nights for shopping and a fun night out. It will feature free, live classic rock concerts, food trucks, family-friendly fun, a beer garden with local craft beers, and weekly summer games by Sam Adams, where you can win free beer for a year. Bands perform for free from 7:00 p.m. – 10 p.m. The 10,000 square foot market will be under a covered tent, so visitors will be shaded from the summer heat and able to shop in comfort.

At 8:30 a.m. this morning there will be a memorial service at the 9/11 Memorial in Mills Park where an I-beam from the fallen towers now serves as a reminder.
