Record number of Bald Eagles spotted during 2021 annual Tahoe count
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 01/24/2021 - 1:49pmINCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — It’s a banner year for Bald Eagles in Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Institute of Natural Science reports that a record number of 42 Bald Eagles were spotted during its annual survey. The previous high was 27 set in 2017.
Scientists keep watch on climate and weather as drought grips Nevada

With these designations, southern Nevadans are facing a mild and dry winter and northern Nevadans are looking at an uncertain forecast. All could face water restrictions, crop or pasture loss and, with exceptional drought, water shortage emergencies.
Citizen Science Drives Environmental Restoration and Preservation in Tahoe-Truckee

Both efforts are aimed at preserving the Tahoe-Truckee region’s unique ecology.
Study investigates link between clothes dryer lint, microplastic pollution in Lake Tahoe

This discovery revealed that microplastic pollution is not just present in oceans, but also in mountains and lakes, including highly protected areas like Lake Tahoe.

For Quinn-Davis, the publications staff became a part of her family every year and even more so when students stayed with the program throughout their high school careers.
Capital City Reads: My First Summer in the Sierra

Capital City Reads takes place every April as a celebration of National Library Week, bringing people together through reading and discussion.

Pipe Keeper Intro Training
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 11/05/2018 - 3:06pmPipe Keepers is a citizen science program to address the threat of stormwater pollution entering Lake Tahoe. Runoff from rain storms and snowmelt is the largest source of pollution that degrades Lake clarity.
The League to Save Lake Tahoe staff will train volunteers Nov. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m., to survey stormwater infrastructure including pipes and storm drains found throughout the city.
All ages welcome, no experience necessary. Snacks and refreshments provided.

However, between Carson High School’s Senior Project graduation requirement, made possible by the generous working community of Carson City, the myriad of old and newly formed clubs offered to the students of Carson High, and on-site income earners like The Greenhouse Project, not to mention the Career and Technical Education Jump Start program offered through Western Nevada College, students are figuring out quickly that high school is not the end of their education before starting a career, it is where they may actually begin their careers.
Carson High among Nevada schools picked to study outer solar system

Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College in Carson City, students and residents interested in astronomy can explore new worlds as part of a five-year citizen science astronomy research project to study the outer solar system.
Two planetary scientists, Marc Buie and John Keller, announced Tuesday the expansion of RECON — the Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network — to 60 communities across the entire western United States.
New citizen-science exhibit coming to UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center

The exhibit will merge the results of citizen science with TERC’s new, real-time monitoring network that is being installed around the lake to understand and improve the clarity and health of Lake Tahoe’s shoreline.
