Western Nevada College held a unique Multi-faith Baccalaureate Service on May 20 in Carson City, the first in its 41 plus years of existence.

According to religious statesman Rajan Zed, co-organizer of this Service along with Douglas Diversity Student Club of WNC; faith leaders belonging to Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and Native American traditions blessed the graduates with their respective prayers in this Service. Dance and music also formed part of this ceremony and a representative of non-believers also addressed the Service.

The Reno Jazz Orchestra, will present a jazz and gospel version of Porgy and Bess with the Pat Esters Gospel Choir. This will be an evening to remember! Set on the shores of Sand Harbor, this pictureqsue setting will be an ideal backdrop for the 17 piece Jazz Orchestra plus The Pat Esters Gospel Choir.

A 60-second radio spot sung by the Sierra Nevada Children's Choir will be used as part of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad 2013 advertising campaign.

The Carson High School Band and Choir Ensembles earned big awards in Bay Area competitions earlier this month. The ensembles will be recognized at the Carson City School District board meeting, Tuesday, April 23 at Carson High School Senator Square; 7 p.m.

Today I attended a Chamber luncheon focused on [our] children's use of drugs and alcohol, and the ENDLESS ways the signs of/actual drugs are hidden. I was blown away with the amount of information given in such a short time, but the most disturbing moment was announced with applause.

What a beautiful way to welcome the Holidays. Tuned hand bells were first introduced in England in the late 17th century, as an adjunt to ringing the big bells found in church towers. Our local Methodist Church Bell Choir has been together for more than 10 yeas, and is led by Michele Powers. There is no better way to kick off our celebratory spirit. 6:30pm. The Tintabulations Handbell Choir will be returning to the Carson City Library on Saturday, April 28th for an 11:00 a.m. performance! The Dreams & Magic handbell concert will include a variety of music to go along with our upcoming Summer Reading Program Theme, "Dream Big, Read!" including nocturnal motifs and several well-known pieces from Disney movies. There are several things wrong with the music comedy "A Joyful Noise," now playing he Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City and elsewhere.

But those faults are outweighed by the music, a contemporary kind of gospel that moves nicely but lacks the true feeling of gospel singing. And the leads are just fine — Queen Latifah as Vi Rose Hill, Dolly Parton as G.G. Sparrow and the exuberant and lovely Keke Palmer as Vi's daughter Olivia.

The Carson High School Chamber Choir - the most advanced group of choir students at the high school - gave an impromptu, and much applauded, selection of Christmas and Hanukkah music to the surprised (and delighted) patrons and employees of the Department of Motor Vehicles this Thursday afternoon. This is the third year they have appeared at the DMV.

The spirit of Christmas will be celebrated with a holiday concert featuring the Western Nevada College concert choir and the Douglas High School Madrigal Singers Tuesday.
The choirs, directed by musician and DHS band director Bill Zabelsky, will feature a myriad of fine music including "The Snow Carol," "All on a Cold Winter's Night," Earlene Rentz's "Agnus Dei," and a Mac Huff arrangement of the popular "Home for Christmas.

Lake Tahoe South is New Year’s celebration central with Snow Globe, a three-day outdoor music festival with over 40 world-class musicians on three main stages, firework shows, combined with a myriad of outdoor recreation, entertainment and nightlife, providing action-packed holiday season for kids of all ages.

Judy Monson, founder and director of the Carson Chamber Singers since 1985, has announced her decision to retire in June 2012 after the Pops Party concert. A well known and loved educator, vocalist, and conductor in Carson City and Reno, Ms. Monson has led the Chamber Singers in inspiring performances in Carson City, Reno, Virginia City, Minden, Genoa, and Fallon.

LAKE TAHOE — If another La Nina visits the Sierra this winter – all-time records were approached in 2010-11 with more than 700 inches of snow – Tahoe South ski resorts are ready to roll on another epic season.

Dayton’s first Healthy Communities Coalition 5K Walk/Run on May 14 attracted 50 contestants, plus 20 volunteers from Stand Tall and Dayton Task Force. The 5K fundraiser for Stand Tall’s youth leadership teams and Dayton Resource Bank resulted in $811 for the two local youth programs.

The event was a fun way for the community to exercise and to join together for two good causes. Organizers Lavurne Jeffreys and Star Erickson said they look forward to making this an annual event.

On Sunday, May 22nd, at 3:00 p.m., the 12th Annual Ecumenical Choir Festival Concert will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Avenue in Reno, Nevada. Five choirs from a wide area of Northern California, Reno and Carson City will combine their more-than-50 voices to sing four selections: Thomas Tallis’ poignant “If Ye Love Me”; Henry Purcell’s majestic “O God, Thou Art My God”; Bruce Greer’s lively and rhythmic arrangement of “The Lord Reigns!” and Franz Schubert’s enthusiastic “Sanctus” from the Mass in D.

The Reno-Tahoe-Truckee community has six opportunities this December to enjoy TOCCATA’s wonderful tradition of producing selections from "Handel's Messiah" in a Holiday Concert, including a performance in Carson City on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The Carson City performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The Carson City concert features the 60-voice Carson High School Concert Choir, alumni and Carson soloists, and will be a benefit for the high school choir’s future tour presentations.

Well over a thousand people were in downtown Carson City tonight to ring in the Christmas season with the Silver and Snowflake Festival and Christmas tree lighting at the Nevada State Capitol grounds.

The 300 voices of the Carson City Fifth Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble and the Carson Middle School Advanced Handbell Choir will contribute the music.

With 34 people turning out for a good cause, the Dayton Resource Bank raised more than $1,100 during its 5K Run on Oct. 23. One hundred percent of the funds directly benefit Dayton area school children.

Among the participants were Dayton Elementary School Principal Cory Sandburg, Healthy Communities Coalition director Christy McGill, and the entire Freshman Volleyball team of Dayton High School.
