Column: Christmas shows us that we are all essential
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 12/25/2020 - 11:10amOf the many lessons to be learned from 2020, not the least of which is that there's no such thing as a non-essential person.
To insist otherwise degrades the value of human dignity. Kind of like the way Henry F. Potter made George Bailey feel on Christmas Eve one year at the end of World War II.

Veterans Day 2019: Remembering Stories of Honor That Can Inspire Us Today
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 11/10/2019 - 11:56amWe could all benefit from stories about honor and heroes right now, especially during this era when extreme partisan politics have upended our country’s equilibrium. Some way, somehow higher roads need to be taken and it needs to start with our ruling political class. Maybe these poignant stories from years past can rekindle a sense of honor that seems in short supply these days.

For the first time, the Brewery Arts Center partners with TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada to bring you A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS.
This classic animated special will come to life in this faithful stage adaptation, in which Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts Gang discover the true meaning of Christmas.
When Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism he sees among everyone during the Christmas Season, Lucy suggests that he become the director of the school Christmas pageant.
Column: The significance of being insignificant
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 12/01/2018 - 10:19amTwo years ago at Christmas time, I made my way across the Capitol Plaza to cover bench dedications in downtown Carson City.
But something caught my eye when I reached the Nevada Slain Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, causing me to pause.
Column: Keep chasing the dream, feed your passion
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sun, 08/12/2018 - 12:36pmPersistence. That's the difference between life's winners and its losers.
Winners don't quit, and quitters don't win. It's as simple as that.
One will never accomplish goals in life or realize dreams if one gives up the chase. I've had to learn some hard lessons about that over the years.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 11/22/2017 - 3:02pmCharlie Brown once posed the question, “What if today we were just grateful for everything?” Pioneer High School students put this sentiment into action by assembling Thanksgiving dinner baskets for those in need.

Nevada Humane Society Column: Monsters Under the Bed
Submitted by editor on Thu, 01/28/2016 - 11:11amWhile many pets only stay at Nevada Humane Society for a short time, some are overlooked and will reside here longer than others. They may be shy or overly energetic, older, a bit sassy, or have a special need, such as a diet restriction or perhaps missing an eye. These pets may be considered Less-Adoptable to some, but to us, and fellow animal lovers, they are considered still lovable! Wouldn’t you agree?
