Veterans Donate to Carson City Library
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 12:24pmRepresentatives from the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson City Sea Cadets and U.S. Navy League gathered at the Carson City Library Friday to donate a Bluejackets Manual and a 1942-1943 USS Nevada Cruise Book. Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and Library Director Sara Jones were on hand for the event.

Carson St., Carson City. Dance contests and workshops for adults and youths are interspersed with open dancing to a variety of DJ music. The Swing Into Spring Formal Dinner Dance and "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contest is Saturday, 6 pm-midnight. Prime Carson River Canyon Frontage Permanently Protected
Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/04/2011 - 2:56pmAbout 3.5 miles of frontage that amounts to 419 acres along the Carson River corridor was sealed into protection thanks to the voter-approved Question 1 initiative and Carson City's own Question 18 Quality of Life Initiative.
A partnership for the purchase, appraised at $3.1 million, was created between Carson City, the Nevada Land Conservancy, the Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway and private landowner John Serpa.

Roop Street project in Carson City is finally finished
Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/16/2010 - 4:10pmA $4.1 million road widening project that began in January of this year on Roop Street ended Thursday and was celebrated by Carson City officials, nearby residents and, of course, motorists.
A ribbon cutting ceremony at William and Corbett streets marked the occasion. The project — paid for with regional transportation and utility taxes — has been in the works for years, originally planned for construction in 2005 at a cost of around $7 million. However plans were temporarily shelved as the city assessed and paid for other pressing needs.
Carson City Greenhouse Project breaks ground

And now those hopes will soon come to be as The Greenhouse Project, a community-based greenhouse and garden, takes root in Carson City.
A ground-breaking ceremony held on Friday marks the beginning of a project that many believe will be a model for Carson City, the state of Nevada and the nation. Construction will begin next week.

Lands bill contains money for Kings Canyon, Carson River Canyon property
Submitted by admin on Fri, 10/22/2010 - 10:49pmThe Secretary of the Interior announced the approval of $90 million in funding for continued restoration at Lake Tahoe along with other park and trail projects in Nevada as part of the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act.
The funding includes money for the purchase by the Forest Service of the 13 acre Schulz property near the Kings Canyon Waterfall as well as funding up to 40 percent of the $1.6 million for the acquisition of the Bently, Carson River Canyon property. The balance of the funding and future management will be through the City’s Open Space Program.

Carson City audience wowed by U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West concert

The performance held at the Bob Boldrick Community Center was a solid smash and delighted the mostly senior audience, many of whom served in the military. The last time the full band was in Carson City was in the fall of 2006.
Carson City celebrates $3.6 million senior housing development with ceremony

Building will begin June 14 on a $3.6 million, 42-unit senior apartment complex in Carson City, designed to help close the gap in a shortage of affordable retirement housing here.
