Free drive-thru flu shots offered Nov. 8 at Minden's GE Bently
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/28/2014 - 9:51amMiss Friday's free flu shot in Carson City? There's another planned for Saturday, Nov. 8 in Minden. Douglas County Emergency Management and Carson City Health and Human Services, along with several community partners, including the Douglas County Healthcare Coalition, are hosting the free drive-through flu vaccination clinic.
Citizens are invited to stop by the GE Bently parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free flu vaccination. Vehicle staging will begin on Bently Parkway off Buckeye Road. The address is 1631 Bently Parkway South.
Free Flu Clinic in Carson City on Friday

Both clinics are drive-thru. The Friday clinic is from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Carson City Corporate Yard, 3303 Butti Way.

Sponsored by Carson City Health and Human Services, Job Opportunities in Nevada (JOIN), and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce the Sept. 26 fair, located in the large gym of the community center at 851 East William Street, is open to the general public and all job seekers. Veterans will be able to enter the Job Fair at 1:30 p.m. for early admission.
Carson City's unemployment declines slightly in August; job fair set for Sept. 26
Submitted by editor on Fri, 09/19/2014 - 8:50amCarson City's unemployment rate fell slightly to 7.5 percent in August along with Nevada's overall unemployment rate which also dipped to 7.6 percent, the lowest since August 2008 and down 2.2 points from a year ago, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reports Friday.

West Nile Virus confirmed in Carson City
Submitted by editor on Mon, 09/15/2014 - 2:45pmThe presence of West Nile Virus has been confirmed in Carson City, the Nevada Department of Agriculture announced Monday. Officials tested wetlands, ditches and other small bodies of water during the first week of September and of the samples collected so far the virus is present in one of the test sites.
The site was in a rural, eastern area of Carson City, along the Carson River, said Dustin Boothe, division manager and epidemiologist for the Carson City Health and Human Services.

Carson City back to school enrollment, immunizations continue this week

Today through Aug. 15, immunizations are being held, with back to school walk-in hours from 1 to 4:30 p.m, no appointment necessary. All required school vaccines are available. After this week, Health and Human Services will offer immunizations on Thursdays only.
The agency is located at 900 East Long Street in Carson City. The number is (775) 887-2190.

Agencies, counties and employers continue to push job hiring in the region
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/27/2014 - 8:33amEmployers and job seekers have been connecting this winter and spring through a number of initiatives including job fairs in Carson City, Lake Tahoe, an April 4 event planned in Douglas County and most recently through Nevada JobConnect.
A weeklong job quest campaign in Carson City received 1,047 job openings in a variety of industries from entry level to executive level jobs, well above the goal of 500 job openings set by the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, said DETR Director Frank Woodbeck.
