The Carson City School District’s Bicycle Fun & Safety Day benefited the Carson City Schools Foundation this morning. The event was held at Fritsch Elementay School.

Sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) and hosted by the Carson City School District, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Safe Routes to School, local bike clubs and shops, the inaugural event served as a proving ground to acquaint experienced and less experienced bike riders with their eco-friendly transport mechanisms.

What a week it was Carson City, and it isn't even over yet. Heading into Friday, May 3, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. On Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, Carson City physical education teachers opted in to take a comprehensive training class about biking and walking safety.

TUESDAY, June 26: Things to do in Carson City

Cortney Bloomer of Healthy Communities Coalition will offer a free bike safety rodeo for kids ages 5-12 on Tuesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Silver City basketball court, next to the town park and community center at 385 High Street.

I’m going to suggest that you keep this weekend’s plans flexible. There’s only a chance of rain, but the chance of it showing up at the wrong time is always high. The very early morning is best spent watching the hot air balloons against the Reno skyline, but you’ll probably want a sweater for the pre-dawn chill. Head up the hill to Virginia City this weekend. It is going to be a beautiful Tuesday: toasty, but not too hot, and with a nice afternoon breeze. As the summer goes along, kids get a little antsy. Take your grade schooler up to Silver City for their annual Bike Safety Rodeo and you’ll leave confident that they know the rules of the road. Hit the dance floor tonight. You can learn some beginning swing dance moves at El Charro Avita. Grab your partner and head to Carson Lanes for lessons in country line dancing and a good time with DJ Cowboy Bobby Truesdale.

TUESDAY:

SILVER CITY, NEVADA — Western Safe Routes to Schools will offer a free bike safety rodeo for ages 5-12 on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 from 10am to noon at the Silver City basketball court (next to the town park and School House/community center at 385 High Street).

Kids will learn road rules and safety, and participate in fun bike maneuvers and exercises. They'll receive new bike helmets if they do not have one yet.

The event is part of the town's annual free summer program and is held in partnership with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.

SILVER CITY — Each summer since 2003, the historic Comstock community of Silver City has partnered with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey to organize a free, public program with guest teachers leading fun, hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

Last week the annual program kicked off with a blues concert in the park, and this Tuesday, June 13 the program continues with science activities led by Jim Barcellos of University of Nevada Reno Cooperative Extension (UNCE).

Mongoose bikes is helping support the Pioneer High School transition program. The transition program at the Carson City high school helps students into post higher education and career paths. Mongoose is providing bikes, helmets, and all the essentials to maintain a bike. Students will learn bike safety and how to complete basic bike maintenance.

Kids won’t want to miss the Bike Safety Rodeo in Silver City. Silver City, Nevada – There will be a free Bike Safety Rodeo for children ages 5 to 12 on Tuesday, August 9th from 10am-noon at the Silver City basketball court (385 High Street).

In an effort to teach kids proper bike safety procedures, Western Safe Routes to Schools brings bike safety rodeos to communities in the Carson/ Lyon/Storey region.

As the days become longer with plenty of sunshine, elementary students in the Carson City School District may be more eager than ever to put their bike tires to the asphalt.

Organizers of the the 2011 Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling event in North America, announced today the Stage 1 and Stage 2 race routes for Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe’s first-ever involvement in the race as the official Overall Start is Sunday, May 15 and begins at South Lake Tahoe at 6,300 feet, the highest start elevation in the six-year history of the competition. Stage 1 wraps up in North Lake Tahoe at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, with the Stage 2 Start taking place nearby at Squaw Valley USA on Monday, May 16.
