According to the U.S. data group Nielsen, Americans spent 34 hours using smartphone apps and on the mobile Web in December 2013, averaging at least seven sessions a day with their device. This trend has spurred numerous self-help books and articles on technology addiction. Heading into the holidays, the desire to unplug from the digital world and reconnect with family and friends has never been stronger.

Dogs of War Poker Run Saturday to benefit veterans

All proceeds from this event will go to support Veterans in need from our community, a portion going to a WW2 Veteran who was victimized during a home invasion on Memorial Day.

Elaine and I, our son Jim, daughter-in-law Kathi and my cousin Lorraine Scholes and her husband Bob just returned, earlier this week, from a fun-filled 14-day vacation trip to Honolulu on the Island of Oahu (4 days) and to Poipu on the Island of Kauai (10 days).
Carson City restaurant and food inspection report for week of Dec. 12

Inspections for the week of Dec. 12 include restaurants and fast food restaurants, the Carson City Jail, a retail grocery store, and a bar and grill in Carson City. Beginning Jan. 1, 2014 inspections will also be made in Douglas County as part of an inter-local agreement.

Fundraiser at Twisted Spoke Bar and Grill for victims of ATV accident
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 06/25/2013 - 11:11pmOn June 20 two Carson City area girls, Katrina Ingersoll and Marcy Martin were in a near fatal ATV accident. Marcy has already been released, yet Katrina is still fighting for her life.
Not all the details are known at this time. As most know these girls have families that are known to help out in times of need. At this time the friends of the girls are asking the community for support in raising funds for these girls and their families.
Carson City Search and Rescue hosts Geocache Adventure

The Geocache Adventure, a second-annual event hosted by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit, will provide a day's worth of searching for participants and $1,000 in prizes.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a 10 a.m. start time. The gathering will meet at Bully's Sports Bar and Grill, 3530 N Carson Street. Cost: Kids under 15: $12 Adults: $20 Team of 4 any age: $60

The event, organized by GE’s Measurement and Control employees in Minden, was held Friday, February 22, 2013, at Jethro’s Bar and Grill in Gardnerville, Nevada. Both charities rely heavily on support from partners, like GE, to sustain operations.

Fundraiser in Carson City raises money for toddler's funeral, medical expenses

Last month, Watson's two-year-old son, Justin Watson, tragically died from injuries he received while under the care of Watson's girlfriend.

Douglas County Dispatch received a 911 call of a structure fire at the Genoa Station Grill and Bar, which is a newer business adjacent to the Genoa Town Hall. East Fork Fire and Paramedic District along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the scene, said DCSO Sgt. Pat Brooks.

New restaurant opening in Carson Mall
Submitted by admin on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 8:06amA new restaurant is looking to be open for business by the first week of April in the location recently vacated by Paradise Cove Cafe on the Stewart Street side of Carson Mall.
Zen's Cafe is a family-friendly bar and grill that currently has two locations in Arizona. Owner Adrian Yap said he has had success even in tough locations by offering great fresh-made food and being accommodating to his customers.
"People just want to have a good time," Yap said. He envisions his restaurants to be Cheers-style local's hangouts, and even names many of his menu items after his customers.

'Sassafras' to replace closing B'Sghetti's restaurant
Submitted by admin on Tue, 06/28/2011 - 5:46pmWhile Carson City residents were mourning the loss of B'Sghetti's restaurant this week, it appears that plans for a new eatery named Sassafras were coming together behind the scenes.
Sassafras will be a "chalkboard restaurant" with a changing menu focusing on fresh, local foods, according to a press release sent to Carson Now. The restaurant will be a partnership between Chef Anthong "Tony" Fish who currently operates "The Grill" at Mo and Sluggo's, and B'Sghetti's owner Scott Doerr, along with Carl Ceccarelli and Jayme Watts.
