Heading into a jam-packed weekend of events around the Carson City region, there's a bevy of activities Friday to get your started. From May through November each year, Pure Prairie League hits the road, bringing music to communities big and small.

The Greenhouse Project welcomes them as they play the 11th annual Concert Under the Stars on July 10 at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City, for a hit-driven evening that also includes bands Poco and Firefall.

A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday morning for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, gross misdemeanor destruction of property, and misdemeanor domestic battery, a sheriff's deputy report said.

Festivities include the opening day of the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Carson City's Casino Fandango, the planting of American flags on the graves of our fallen veterans at Lone Mountain Cemetery, a weekly open mic night at A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, live music and more.

CARSON CITY — Rusty Young by his own assessment, was born to play music. With half a century of performing, recording and touring with his band Poco, which he co-founded in 1968 with Jim Messina, Richie Furay, Randy Meisner and George Grantham, he’s made good use of his gift.

I operate in an interesting corner of the music landscape – I’m a guitar player and songwriter in a touring rock band (Hunter & The Dirty Jacks), I review albums for Tahoe Onstage, and I see 100+ shows per year in person. Between all of that, I’ve been able to observe the music scene from multiple angles – working musician, concertgoer, and consumer with a critical ear.

Heading into Saturday, May 18, 2019 we say welcome to the weekend Carson City. Activities abound throughout the region. Bring an umbrella as the forecast calls for some showers. But above all, enjoy the events and activities lined up in Carson City, Carson Valley, Mound House, Silver City, Virginia City and Dayton areas.

One of the great things about our high desert climate is is how quickly conditions can change. Heading into Tuesday we're looking at breezy conditions and sunny skies, with a shift in the weather Wednesday. But for now, let's enjoy Tuesday, May 14, with indoor and outdoor activities including three separate Muscle Powered hosted events, an archery shoot, Big Band Jazz at Living the Good Life and more. The Mile High Jazz Band will perform an all-instrumental program highlighting the talents of several soloists from the band at Living the Good Life Bistro, 1480 N. Carson Street, in Carson City on Tuesday, May 14, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free, donations welcome. Dinner and late night menus are available.

Coming to Carson City on Friday, May 17, the Brewery Arts Center Celtic Series features The Sophie & Fiachra Trio who will perform in the Maizie Harris Jesse Theatre.

The Sophie & Fiachra Trio are a group of “musiciens sans frontieres' who refuse to let the Atlantic sunder their love of their own and one another’s Irish and Québecois musical traditions.”

The show begins at 7 p.m. Go here for tickets.

Comprising of Irish uilleann piper Fiachra O’Regan, Québec fiddler/singer Sophie Lavoie, and guitarist André Marchand, the trio take traditional Irish and Québécois traditional music, blended with Lavoie’s “lithe and masterful” compositions. Their choice of songs will “captivate the most casual listener”

Enjoy the first full day of summer with a cold beer and live music at the 2019 Capital City Brewfest. Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Capital City Brewfest taking place Saturday, June 22nd, from 3 – 8 pm in Downtown Carson City.

Nearly two dozen breweries and several food trucks will line the newly redesigned Curry Street. Plus, there will be live music in McFadden Plaza. You won’t want to miss hearing The Belle Sounds, an indie pop-rock band from Austin Texas. The five-member band is sure to entertain you with its three part harmonies, soaring melodies and lush sonic sounds.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

CARSON CITY — The Carson High School Wind Ensemble and Midnight Blues Jazz Ensemble performed in southern California taking home numerous awards at last weekend’s Music in the Parks Festival.

Blu Jaz will perform this Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Bella Fiore Wines in Carson City. The four-piece band has quite a following. Blu Jaz performa a steady diet of blues and jazz coupled with a few dance upbeat songs.

They're becoming somewhat a fixture at Bella Fiore Wines, located at 224 S. Carson Street in the McFadden Plaza. The band consists of Myke Smith, on saxes, Bradley Harris, guitarist and harmonica, Paul Bonaldi, on drums and Tim Goldsmith on bass.

Dance with Live Music at the Carson City Senior Center! Kick up your dancing shoes and enjoy the live music of The Grumpy Old Men Band at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, on Friday, May 10, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, open to all ages. Dances occur on the second Friday of each month. Call the Carson City Senior Center at (775) 883-0703.

Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. The Brevet can be traced back to front man Aric Chase Damm’s college days where he realized he had a talent for writing scores to be used in student films. This lead to a licensing deal, tracks from the band’s albums would be used in film and television, and an every-growing popularity online. True to their roots, The Brevet create songs that are cinematic, full of catchy hooks, and blend the excitement of thunderous percussion, electric guitars, and some R&B swagger.

Since 1995, the Wicked Tinkers have been playing ancient rhythms and forgotten sounds—things might have heard hundreds of years ago at a Scottish wedding or Highland riding party—but have reimagined the music for the twenty-first century. The aim to create a sound that is both “ancient and hauntingly familiar” with use of bagpipes, tribal drums, didgeridoos, and Bronze-Age Irish horns paired with a modern, rock-and-roll energy; their music will transport you back in time and get an audience of their feet with a raw, primal, and exciting sound.

The Dead Winter Carpenters come from North Lake Tahoe, California and have created a reputation for “pouring their heart and soul” out on the stage. They are trying to redefine string music for a youthful generation of listeners; their progressive nature and sound comes from use of plugged and unplugged instruments, a blending of refined musical ability and ‘letting it all hang out,’ with a strong sense of ambition. They are reminiscent of genre-benders like Jack White, Chris Thile and Sam Bush and, like these artists, connect with their fans in ways that sell out their show.

Flor de Toloache have taken the city by storm and made New York City history as the “First and Only All-Woman Mariachi Group.” Their unique flavor and sound is a result of working to preserve old traditions of Mariachi while adding original flare influenced from diverse cultural backgrounds from all over the globe.

Back by popular demand! Remember Jones is a one-of-a-kind soul/pop singer, storyteller and bandleader with a throwback vibe and authentic energy. Collaboratively supported by a large ensemble of musicians (featuring female backing vocalists, a horn section, and a six-piece rhythm section), the band has played to countless packed and sold-out ballrooms, clubs and theaters throughout the country.

Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal formed, in 2012, in the blues-town of Lincoln, Nebraska. The five-piece band had been inspired by sounds of Motown, Stax, Muscle Shoals, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco; they are “music for the people, by the people,” and they do whatever they can to get a crowd dancing to forget all about their own troubles. Their musical roots and inspirations can be heard alongside their more-contemporary sound as they charge into the modern era of soul music. In January 2019, Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal released their fourth studio album: “Do It Now.”
