Senator Square: Carson High School's Carneta yearbook staff have successful year

As the school year comes to an end, the 2018-2019 Carneta yearbook staff can finally slow down and take a breath. At the end of the week before Spring Break, at 8:30 p.m., the final pages were submitted, and the book was officially finished. After months of interviewing, photographing, and editing, the book is currently being printed by Walsworth Publishing Co., in Marceline, Kansas.

Nevada Lore Series: Vikingsholm, Lake Tahoe’s not-so-secret Viking Castle

Vikingsholm, (literally meaning Viking island in the middle of a lake) named after its creator’s love of Scandinavia and viking culture, is a mansion on the shore of Emerald Bay, boasting 30 rooms and perfectly reconstructed viking treasures.

Lora Josephine Knight purchased the property where Vikingsholm now stands for $250,000 (which would be $3.6 million today) in 1928, and immediately began planning her creation. Lake Tahoe, she said, reminded her of the fjords and mountains of Scandinavia. Knight wanted to build a summer home that was reminiscent of the culture.

Modern ‘refined, high-class’ vibe in works for Carson City's historic Jack’s Bar

The Nevada Builder’s Alliance took ownership of the historic Jack’s Bar earlier this year and CEO Aaron West is dedicated to turning it into a prime location for downtown Carson City.

According to West, the damage to the interior was so severe from years of misuse and decay, that the only parts to remain of the original establishment will be the exterior stone walls and cast iron columns.
