Thank you to everyone who made the Friends in Service Helping, 8th annual Have A Heart fundraiser a success. Due to the generosity and kind-heartedness of the community, this year was the most successful yet!

What looks like an auto part collector's dream will eventually take shape into at least one, and as many as three vintage Ford Model A closed cab pick-up trucks and a 1931 Ford slant window sedan.

Donated to the Western Nevada College Foundation on behalf of the E.L. Cord Automotive Technology Center by Garth Richards, owner of the Silver Oak Golf Course located near the college in Carson City, the combined parts have an appraised value of $15,000.

More than 150 golfers are expected to compete in the 16th annual Western Nevada College Golf Classic to be held Friday, Sept. 18 at Silver Oak Course. Signups are now underway.

Proceeds from the annual tournament hosted by the Western Nevada College Foundation benefit College programs, help students achieve their academic goals and give back to the community as a skilled, educated workforce.

Part of the fun each year at Concert Under the Stars, A benefit for The Greenhouse Project, is the live auction. The generosity of the community by and through the donations of ever-changing and diverse packages, means there is something for everyone. And of course, the community’s willingness to bid and support the ongoing work of The Greenhouse Project, completes the circle.

Final results are in for two Carson City Supervisor election seats that will result in November runoffs.
In the Carson City Supervisor Ward 2 race Brad Bonkowski and Dennis Johnson will face off and in Ward 4, incumbent Molly Walt will take on Jim Shirk for the seat.

Early voting and absentee votes for Carson City are in:
In the Supervisor Ward 2 Race, Brad Bonkowski is ahead 33.14 percent, followed by Dennis E. Johnson at 27.21 percent, followed by Stacie Wilkie McCullough, 23.41 percent, and Maurice White, 16.24 percent.

Carson City Supervisors Ward 4 Race has incumbent Molly Walt garnering 39.07 percent of the vote; Jim Shirk, 37.02; Amy Clemens, 23.91 percent.

The other races for Justice of the Peace (John Tatro); Mayor (Bob Crowell); School Trustee District 5 (Steven Reynolds) were uncontested.

The candidates' forum put on Tuesday night by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce allowed the seven people running for Carson City Supervisor to define where they each stand on local issues.

The candidates included current Ward 4 Supervisor Molly Walt, and the two other people running for that seat, Jim Shirk and Amy Clemens. Vying for the open Ward 2 seat were Brad Bonkowski, Dennis Johnson, Stacie Wilke-McCulloch and Maurice White.

There were a few surprise candidates who threw their hats into the ring for this year's elections on the last day of filing.

Stacie Wilke-McCulloch, who currently serves on the Carson City School Board, filed to run for Carson City Board of Supervisors Ward 2. She joins three other candidates looking to succeed current Supervisor Shelly Aldean, who decided not to run again. Brad Bonkowski, Dennis Johnson and Maurice White are the other candidates.

The Secretary of State's website is busy getting all the campaign contribution and expense reports up online. Below are some of the one they have down, as well as a couple of PDF files attached. The rest should be up online soon.

Important decisions lie ahead with voters in the upcoming elections for several Carson City elected offices.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will hold two primary candidates forums April 12 and April 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 North Carson Street. The event is free and open to the public. WNC Professor Robert Morin will serve as moderator and ask each candidate a series of three questions. The audience will have the opportunity to weigh in.
