North Lyon Firefighters unanimously vote No Confidence against Chief
North Lyon Firefighters are sounding the alarm. After months of conflict and building tensions, firefighters say they voted unanimously against Chief Jason Nicholl and say they have lost confidence in his ability to lead the North Lyon Fire Protection District.
“This is not something we take lightly,” said Joseph Mendoza, president of the North Lyon Firefighters Association. “We have always tried to work with Chief Nicholl and collaborate on ways to improve firefighter safety and deliver the highest level of service we can to the citizens of this community.”
According to Mendoza, Chief Nicholl has ignored established labor management procedures resulting in a record number of grievances and regulatory agency appeals between the North Lyon Fire Protection District and the North Lyon Firefighters Association, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars.
“Under his leadership, Chief Nicholl has created such a hostile work environment that North Lyon Fire District has seen the highest firefighter turnover rate in district history. Our firefighters have lost confidence in his ability to lead our department and provide the level of service our citizens deserve.” Mendoza continued. “We can no longer stand by and remain silent. We stand united in what we believe is right for the district, for the citizens of our community, for our families, and for our fellow firefighters.”
President Mendoza presented a letter to the North Lyon Fire Protection District Board of Directors Thursday night at their regular meeting, informing the board of the firefighters' vote.
