Sheriff announces Carson City arrest warrants now available online
Those who have warrants for their arrest in Carson City will now be able see them online and those with some warrants — mainly minor traffic tickets — will be able to pay them without having to be thrown in jail or have to appear before a judge.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong today announced plans designed to enhance crime prevention efforts by making better use of its website, which means going public with those who have active warrants for their arrest.
The website can be reached through the official Carson City website, or by clicking here. A click on the file "Carson City most wanted" will take readers to a PDF file of all existing outstanding warrants. (Update: You can also find the PDF attached at the bottom of this story.)
The updated website now provides a lengthy list of arrest warrants that are active. The listing contains the name, birth date, last known address, type of warrant (offense), and the bail amounts of the warrant. The listing will be updated monthly. There are more than 3,300 active warrants on file.
To reduce this number, the Sheriff's Office is asking for the help and assistance of everyone in locating the persons. The goal of the Sheriff is to reduce the number of warrants by 33 percent during the year; so if you know you have a warrant, be aware. Anyone with information on the location or contact information of a person listed, please contact the Public Safety Communications Center at (775) 887-2011.
Meanwhile, those who have outstanding traffic warrants that are minor can take care of business without having to go to jail and erasing the warrants immediately by either paying online or in person at the Carson City Justice and Municipal Court.
This new service is offered to those with outstanding warrants of a minor traffic nature of those who had let them lapse, said Rory Planeta, chief of alternative sentencing for Carson City.
The idea behind it is that it will save the person court time, and them being arrested and having to see a judge on their failure to appear warrant.
"Of course it is easier for those just to either show up in court, talk to the judge or to pay the fine," Planeta said, adding that those who don't take this course of action are the ones stuck paying more in the end, including a $100 warrant fee. By giving those with these minor traffic infractions the chance to pay up in full, it will cut down on court time, paper work costs and the sheer amount of warrants issued. Click here for more information or if you would like to pay your fine through the city.
Three additional added features will soon be available. These include:
— Home/family use information on how to identify key indicators that someone may be involved in gangs
— How to identify drug use,
— where traffic accidents most often occur throughout the town.
Plans are to have all of these informational/educational tabs up and running by the end of January, Furlong said.
As a reminder, you can keep track of what's happening in your neighborhood by accessing "Crimeview" by clicking here.
