The 2014 state volleyball tournament was under way and the first Division 1 match up was the Coronado Cougars against the Carson Senators. After a series of long, congratulatory introductions the state tournament was underway!
The first set was very back-and-forth remaining tied up at just about every occasion anyone's eyes caught the scoreboard. The competitiveness continued through 18-18 when Carson called the first time out of the state tournament. The slightest margin gave the Cougars the first set at 25-21.
The Cougars got out to an early lead at 5-2 to begin the second set. It didn't take long for the Senators to wake up and bring the score back to 7 all. Then the score read 8 all, then 9 all before at last Coronado shattered the pattern with a decent run to go up 16-11 before another Carson timeout. After the intermission it was all Coronado who puled away with set number two at 25-15.
Set number three was very competitive going back and forth at 4 all and 5 all. After a promising Carson run the Senators managed to expand their lead to 11-7. Carson's momentum was halted by a decent Coronado run to bring the score back to 15-16 Carson, before a couple points and a timeout later, Coronado found themselves ahead again at 18-17. The Cougars went on a decent run to expand their lead to 21-18 but the Senators made a promising comeback to bring it back to 21 all before a Coronado time out. After a very competitive last couple of points Carson took their first set of the state tournament at 25-23.
Coronado looked really good to start the fourth set leaping ahead 3-0 in a hurry before the Senators kept them honest at 3 all. Coronado exploded to 9-4 and continued to dominated the last set all the way to 20-8. After 10 set points to work with, it only took Coronado two to put the final nail in the Carson Senators coffin with a final score 25-13.
