The NNDA, Maurice White and Jim Shirk Part II
"Confirmation bias may be defined and often refers to a type of selective thinking whereby one tends to notice and to look for what confirms one's beliefs, and to ignore, not look for, or undervalue the relevance of what contradicts one's beliefs.”
Admittedly, we all suffer from this weakness in our personal analysis of the many issues that confront the citizens of Carson City.
Confirmation bias is a seductive mistress! This logical fallacy makes us feel secure. It allows us to reset reality, and then, when coupled with a rigid quest for purity in a political ideology, it automatically inhibits and virtually eliminates, the concept of discursive and civil dialogue and the ability to compromise for the common good. Seldom, if ever, does confirmation bias end in a solution.
When facts overcome your confirmation bias, the default position is to personally attack your political opponents. This is not a quality of leadership, to the contrary, it lowers us all into the murky depths of conspiracy thinking.
Maurice White, along with his symbiotic/parasitic twin, Jim Shirk, perceive the NNDA, as an “enemy of the people”, because the Carson City Board of Supervisors entered into a contractual relationship with the NNDA, to aid an assist in the economic growth of Carson City. They both take umbrage with the 150,000 dollars granted to NNDA for a program that would assert and encourage workforce retention.
Much to these individual’s chagrin, Carson City, is not some bucolic little burg that exists as a spot on Google Maps! We are a vibrant and diversified community! We do not reside in a “bubble” that shields us from the economic, social, educational, demographic, and cultural issues that now confront us, and if we rely on the low rent confirmation bias of Maurice White and Jim Shirk, then your son or daughter may not benefit or obtain a good paying job in Carson City, that may flow from an association between our city government and NNDA.
Meanwhile, Maurice White collects his pension from the State of Nevada and wants to be elected to the Carson City Board of Supervisors so he can collect another government check.
Jim Shirk, voted to raise his compensation as member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, because he felt somehow, he was underpaid.
As a taxpayer, I have not seen a return for my investment when it comes to these two incompetent demagogues.
My money is on the NNDA, it’s a better investment!
More to come!
