Unemployed or not, if you need health insurance there’s an answer
The past year has shown us how critical access to affordable quality health insurance is, especially for Nevadans who have lost their jobs and therefore their employer-based health insurance coverage.
According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), the state’s unemployment rate is sitting at around eight percent with thousands of families struggling with the uncertainty of how to access insurance adding more stress to an already stressful time.
Through the newly-enacted American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA or American Rescue Plan), Nevadans have an immediate opportunity to enroll in and save on health insurance costs through the state-based health insurance marketplace Nevada Health Link.
If you are looking for health insurance coverage for you and/or your family, the American Rescue Plan provides Nevadans with a Special Enrollment Period where insured and uninsured Nevadans can take advantage of reduced insurance premiums from now until August 15.
Here are some things that new enrollees can expect to see:
— Premiums for the Unemployed Start at $0: The American Rescue Plan provides subsidies for Nevadans who have received unemployment for at least one week this year and/or who are currently receiving benefits. Those premiums can be as low as $0.
— For Uninsured Nevadans, Coverage Has Never Been Cheaper: If you are uninsured because health insurance has always been out of your reach, now is the time to check back with Nevada Health Link. The cost of health insurance has dropped dramatically and you might be surprised at how inexpensive quality insurance plans have become.
— Insured Nevadans Can Save: If you already have insurance purchased through Nevada Health Link, or through another provider, you can still save. Nevada’s special enrollment period allows you to enroll in coverage or update your current enrollment and claim those savings through August 15, 2021.
Finding the right health insurance is complicated at the best of times, and downright infuriating at the worst. To help all Nevadan’s find coverage for their needs, Nevada Health Link provides free access to Agents, Certified Enrollment Counselors or Brokers. They can help you understand the different health insurance options available to you and your family, all at no cost.
