Sims declares candidacy for Nevada Congressman, District 2
This afternoon, Aaron Sims announced his candidacy for congress for Nevada’s 2nd congressional district. He held a rally at Mills Park with around 40 people in attendance and talked about a number of important issues to Nevadans including housing, education, criminal justice reform, energy and open spaces. Sims expressed his support for medicare for all as well as Housing First as efforts to ease people struggling in the current economy.
Sims will make history if elected as the first openly gay congressman for Nevada’s 2nd congressional district as well as breaking the barrier as the first democrat to win this seat.
Nevada’s 2nd congressional district is expected (though not confirmed) to be an open race this year should Mark Amodei decide to run for governor.
Sims plans to travel across Northern Nevada beginning later this month to meet at local Democratic Party meetings, coffee with the candidate and other community events.
Born and raised in the central valley of California, Sims moved to Gardnerville with his family in 2003 and was a graduate of Douglas High School. He has nearly 17 years of political experience including working for governors, on various campaigns, being a campaign manager twice, a lobbyist, a vice chairman of the local Republican Party and recently a candidate for mayor of Carson City in the 2020 elections.
