Carson City Park Ranger-led programs in April featuring Geology Excursion and Jr Ranger Day

Every month, the Park Rangers offer various Ranger-Led programs that include educational opportunities, historical fun, and exciting adventures.

All programs are offered for free and take place in one of the many Carson City parks and open space areas.

Online Registration is often required so Park Rangers have a proper head count. All programs are subject to cancellation due to Park Ranger availability; registered participants will be notified. Geology Excursion
Join a Carson City Park Ranger and geologist Tom Gray for an adventure that truly rocks! On this hike, we will be discussing the geology of Nevada and Carson City, and looking at some cool examples along the way.

The hike is considered "easy" to “more difficult” according to the IMBA Trail Rating System. Expect some rocky terrain for about a mile. Dress for the weather; bring water and wear closed toe shoes.

Jr Ranger Day
Junior Park Ranger Day is an annual event dedicated to help kids complete their Junior Ranger Adventure Guides and be sworn in all in one day! Jr Rangers will get hands on learning experiences with Park Rangers from Carson City! Kids (and adults if desired) of all ages will receive a FREE Carson City JR Ranger Adventure Guide that will be used to on their adventures throughout the day. Park Rangers will also be leading 3 different guided hikes. Once their requirements in the guide are completed, they can receive an official patch and be sworn in as a Carson City Junior Park Ranger!

The hikes are considered “Easy” under the IMBA Trail Rating system. Expect flat terrain for all of the hikes. Be sure to dress for the weather and bring plenty of water and snacks. This program is weather dependent.

UNR Extension Master Gardeners of Douglas County are hosting a Native plant sale on Saturday, May 18 at the River Fork Ranch (The Nature Conservancy) located at 381 Genoa Ln. Minden, NV.
