Carson City sees dusting of snow after overnight rain
It was a surprise for many around Carson City waking up Monday, Presidents Day, to snow after a night of rainfall when forecasters had noted snow would be limited to the mountains. Surprise, surprise as the internet meme song goes.
Staying with National Weather Service, forecasters say periods of snow showers may continue Monday afternoon through early Wednesday in the mountains, with heaviest snow late Tuesday and Tuesday night. For elevations below 7,000 feet, the bulk of the snow arrives late Monday through Tuesday night.
But that may change, according to the latest forecast discussion.
There's a chance the system may split, thus cutting the chances for much of that forecasted precipitation. The split — if it happens — would push the precipitation farther north and deeper south. Go here for the discussion, which will be updated again Monday afternoon.
But for the time being, there is a Winter Storm Warning for Lake Tahoe and Sierra that extends until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
At this time there are no weather advisories, watches or warnings for the Carson City, Carson Valley area.
