Free Dayton cooking class and dinner Monday Feb. 20

February 20, 2017 - 5:30pm The public is warmly invited to join guest Chef Cynthia Kroon for a healthy cooking demonstration, followed by dinner, on Monday Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dayton Valley Community Center, 170 Pike Street.
The class is completely free, no need to register, and everyone is welcome. Chef Cynthia Kroon has a B.S. in Nutritional Science and more than 40 years experience in the culinary industry.
Participants will learn how to prepare chocolate beet cake with avocado frosting, Focaccia bread, avocado egg salad and Mediterranean salmon salad.
Cooking begins at 5:30 p.m. and participants will sit down together to eat at around 6:15 p.m.
On the third Monday of each month, Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties hosts a free cooking demo and dinner featuring healthy menu possibilities that incorporate varying foods distributed through USDA Commodities each month.
For instance, this month’s recipes include USDA Commodities’ canned salmon and eggs.
