Do you want to quit smoking in 2023? Carson Tahoe Health welcomes all who want to quit to be a part of a supportive, group effort for smoking cessation. The new year's first round of 8-week classes begins in January.

Anatomy and Physiology students from Pioneer Academy in Carson City were introduced to an assortment of career options with a hands-on job shadowing opportunity at the Reno Orthopedic Clinic (ROC) in Reno last month.

Carson Tahoe Health and Carson City Health & Human Services, in partnership with several area health organizations, are now officially assessing community feedback, following the wrap-up of an in-depth regional health survey.

CARSON CITY — Carson Tahoe Health has announced an expansion of its Nurse Apprentice Program which allows students enrolled in nursing programs an opportunity to get ‘real-world’ experience while working alongside hospital staff. The expansion, which was made possible through the recent American Rescue Plan Act grant, will allow CTH to have 40 apprentices at all times.

A dental insurance reform bill has been filed by Senator Heidi Seevers Gansert (R-Reno) to raise the requirement that insurance companies must spend on patient care. If passed, at least 80 percent of the money dental insurance companies collect from patients must be spent on dental care or patients get the difference back.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting 49 respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases from November 27 through December 3 in Carson City, Douglas, and Lyon Counties, bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of October to 225. The number of cases that have been reported to CCHHS is about seven (7) percent higher this year compared to the same timeframe last year.

Authentic conversations about mental health are still stigmatized, with millions of sufferers afraid to share their stories for fear of judgement. However, one author is taking readers behind the curtain to facilitate these conversations with grace, humor, and courage.

Special Olympics Nevada will hold its Reno Health Fair on this Saturday, Nov. 19. The event will provide free medical screenings for interested individuals, both with and without intellectual disabilities. The on-site screenings will include dental, stress management, strength and flexibility, sports physicals, body mass indexing, hearing, vision, and feet. Participants who complete all health screenings will receive a free t-shirt, while supplies last.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will be visiting Carson City and Gardnerville this week, providing oral healthcare and exams for local children, teens and young adults.
