Comment on Commentary from Supervisor Pete Livermore: “Let the people vote on the Nugget Project” by dhataway
I find the comments of “Maddog” to be very interesting. There is a rumor going around that the supporters of a new rec center are concerned that the Nugget Project in general and a new library in specific will detract from the rec center and consequently plan to do anything to get the project killed. While we should place the need for a new library under the microscope we should also get realistic with the rec center. A $12M pricetag for a new center is incidental to the cost of operation and maintenance of the center over the life of the facility. That is unrealistic. What is the possibility for taking the space on the west side of the existing community center (the north parking, the raw ground, and possibility the south parking) and constructing a smaller structure to compliment what is in the existing facility? The cost of management and operation could be shared between the total facility as well as the pool complex.
