Daughters of the American Revolution

The Battle Born Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is a women's volunteer service organization, promoting Patriotism, Education, and Historic Preservation. Meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month at noon for one hour, this Nov. 15 through May, at the Staybridge Inn & Suites, 972 Retail Ct, Carson City.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Youth Cadet program is hosting the 3rd annual pancake breakfast fundraiser. This event will take place Sunday, Nov. 12, 8 a.m. to noon at the Sheriff’s Office Ormsby Room, 911 East Musser Street in Carson City. All proceeds will go to the Cadet program to pay for equipment, uniforms and competitions.

Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary will be holding an interactive murder mystery dinner on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Governor's Mansion, Nevada Room with doors opening at 5:00PM.

The murder mystery is entitled "Naughty Santa". Ticket cost is $70.00 per ticket and will include the murder mystery put on by the Funtime Theatre, buffet dinner, no-host bar featuring wine, beer, and soft drinks, door prizes, raffle and silent auction.

The Douglas County School Board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Keith Lewis during a special meeting on Wednesday, November 1.

The motion to accept his resignation and termination agreement was passed 5-2, with Trustees Linda Gilkerson, Tony Magnotta, Carey Kangas, Katherine Dickerson, and President Susan Jansen voting yes to authorize Lewis’ resignation and authorize payments in accordance with his agreement. Clerk David Burns and Vice President Doug Englekirk were opposed.

The Porch Movement – a local 501c3 non-profit created to uproot the loneliness epidemic and build community - hosts a fundraiser on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Home Grown Bowl, 4600 Snyder Ave., Carson City.

“We invite neighbors from Carson Valley, Carson City, and surrounding areas to join us for some family fun while supporting our effort to uproot the loneliness epidemic and build more connected and resilient communities,” said The Porch Movement founder/organizer Tammy Claughton.

UPDATE SUNDAY: A person was injured in an off-road accident in the Goni area. The person was treated and flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Max Casino has officially kicked off its annual holiday food drive benefiting local charities throughout Carson City. Those who want to get involved can donate non-perishable and non-expired food items at Max Casino located conveniently in Downtown Carson City through December 22.

Friends to All is dedicated to bringing joy, cheer and friendship to seniors in our community during the holiday season. Since 1999 this group has been working to meet the needs of those with limited financial resources who are home bound or in care centers with little or no family nearby. Each year 150 - 200 visits are averaged in the Carson City area!

On October 13th, the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 held a fundraising dinner in support of the Douglas-Carson High School Rodeo Club.

Windy conditions are expected into the weekend for the Carson City area and surrounding counties, with a slight chance of rain showers in the lower valleys and snow showers possible along the higher elevations around Lake Tahoe and Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

Firefighters from Central Lyon County Fire, Storey County and Carson City are on scene of an escaped controlled burn off of Minor Road in Dayton. Arriving units estimate the fire at 5 acres, spreading into heavy fuels, according to the Eastern Sierra Fire & Ice page on Facebook.
