Nevada JobConnect launches campaign for Carson City, Douglas and Lyon employers

Nevada JobConnect and the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) Employment Security Division are inviting employers to participate in its second Job Quest campaign being held in Carson City from March 10, 2014 to March 15, 2014.

This year's theme was Nevada's Sesquicentennial, the 150th anniversary of Nevada's admission to the Union. The event--with the largest attendance in many years--was a sellout. The Carson Valley Inn swiftly accommodated our surge of walk-ins, key to the success of the evening.
Karen Abowd announces run for second Carson City Board of Supervisors term

“Carson City has gone through some tough economic times and continues to,” Abowd said. “We have needed to be careful in our planning and how we spend available dollars in order to create sustainable, relevant opportunities that have immediate positive impacts, and build a future we can be proud to leave our children and grandchildren.”
4th Annual Carson High School Safe & Sober 5k Run/Walk a Huge Success

We had a great turn-out with 115 sign-ups and 104 participants. We would like to thank our wonderful sponsors and many volunteers who made this day a complete success – without all of you, this event would not happen! The weather was outstanding, especially if you were running with the wind at your back!

'Wild and Wonderful Wetlands' program Jan. 11 at Nevada State Museum in Carson City

From 10 a.m. to noon, guests will explore how American Indians used plants from the wetlands for food, medicine, and clothing in the museum’s Discovery Lab. The program also examines what kinds of birds and animals use wetlands for their homes.
For hands-on fun, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a 30-minute lab or art project, or both, in groups of eight.
UNR poised to support Nevada as national drone development center

Nevada picked among six drone development centers

As a drone development site, the state would benefit by providing thousands of jobs with an average wage of approximately $62,000; an estimated $2.5 billion in economic impact in present dollars; and an estimated $125 million in annual state and local tax revenue.

Downtown Carson City vision plan promotes small business, provides incentive for new business

Many of you remember Carson City having a downtown. Some of you are new to our area within the last 30 years, and some are of a generation who grew up here and only know what you have been familiar with. Children of all ages are invited to enjoy hot cider, hot chocolate and cookies, visit with and have their picture taken with Santa, while helping provide Christmas for children in need.

Builder's Association of Western Nevada give helping hand to homeowners with repair needs

Ramsey Circle homeowner Nora McGinley fought back tears as a team of local contractors with power tools and building materials arrived at her doorstep with one mission in mind: Lending a helping hand to a good neighbor.
"I'm so grateful. It's just wonderful to know there are people in our community who go out of their way on a Saturday to do something like this," said McGinley. "It's more than I ever imagined."
Peanutcracker Ballet Ideal for Kids this Holiday Season

Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet.

Carson City Manager Larry Werner announces resignation, retirement

“For me, this has been a wonderful experience and I would not have traded it for anything,” said Werner in a letter to the Carson City Board of Supervisors. “Although I do feel some regret in making this decision at this time, I have no concerns about the management of the City because you have the best staff, department directors and elected officials that I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with.”

The fair runs Thursday, Nov. 22, from 5:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm; Friday, Nov. 23; 9:00 am to 4 pm. A booth will be in the lobby of Carson High School. Desiree, a 2011 Carson High School graduate, died Jan. 30, 2013 in a road rage incident.
