Chautauquan Kim Harris will portray Lizzie A. Borden on Wednesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m., and historian Mark McLaughlin will speak on “Lake Tahoe and the Comstock Era; Stories, Facts and Fun” on Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m., at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Chautauquan Larry Lippmann will portray notorious stagecoach robber Black Bart at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 18 at 6:30 pm.

The iconic blue line marking the Kit Carson Trail that winds its way through the west side historic district of Carson City will be replaced by another way-finding method, said Carson City Public Works Senior Transportation Planner Dirk Goering.

The next Sierra Nevada Forum, scheduled for Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m. inside the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall at 511 West King Street, will feature a discussion about the Electoral College and the national popular vote.

Buffalo Bill’s Wild West returns to Dangberg Historic Park on Saturday, August 26 at 11:00 am as the park’s final major event of the 2017 Dangberg Summer Festival.

The show features Buffalo Bill Cody, Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Annie Oakley, the Pony Express, The Mayfield Gang and the 1st Nevada Cavalry. The Douglas High School Marching Band and western singer-songwriter Krista Jenkins return for a second year to draw the audience back in time to the frontier of the American West.

Doug Mishler will portray former President of the United States “Theodore Roosevelt”, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 26, at 6:30 pm.

The annual National Pony Express re-ride strolled through 2nd and Curry street in Carson City earlier than expected Wednesday morning. But those who arrived early to watch came prepared with cameras and bright smiles as two riders exchanged horses and pleasantries in middle of the road.

Larry Ford will present “Virgil Earp: The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 20, at 6:30 pm.

From boom to bust, life in Virginia City during its heyday inspired many dreams of finding fortunes in the ground but also the reality of living in a tough mining town.

Chautauqua performer Kim Copél will portray Genoa Candy Dance creator Lillian Virgin Finnegan in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, June 28, at 10:00 am.

Locally known as the woman who started the Genoa Candy Dance in 1919, Lillian Virgin Finnegan is presented in 1914 after women gained the right to vote in Nevada. She was a suffragette and worked closely with Governor Emmett Boyle during his terms in office.

John Mackay and William Sharon were the wealthiest of the men to emerge from Nevada’s fabulous Comstock Lode. They were also the most influential. Mackay, who rose from poverty, was the hero of Virginia City, respected by its miners and mine owners, idolized by its children.

National Library Week will kick-off Sunday, April 12, 2 p.m., at the Carson City Library with a performance by “Primal Mates." This program has been described as “a delightful meeting of music and poetry ranging from Shakespeare to Kerouac.”

Capital City Reads is Carson City Library’s annual city-wide book club. It is a program that brings people together through the reading and discussion of a common book.

This event runs in conjunction with National Library Week (April 12-April 18); an annual celebration sponsored by the Friends of the Carson City Library.

As a resident of Silver City, I am a proud board member of the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture. Born and raised in Carson City, I spent much of my youth on the Comstock. I focused much of my studies on Nevada and western history obtaining my undergraduate degree in history from the University of Nevada, Reno.

I was honored when asked to serve on the Foundation’s board and it has been incredibly rewarding to work with the Foundation during this exciting time for the Comstock Historic District.

Every week, as I have for the last two years, I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community. Some of it is family friendly, some is just for adults, but all of it is nearby.

Tom May and Chris Kennedy are scheduled to perform in Carson City, NV at The Brewery Arts Center performance hall, 511 West King St., Friday, July 25 at 7:30P p.m.

Tom May is a folksinger, songwriter and author who has been touring, performing, and recording for over forty years. He is also the host/producer of the radio show, “River City Folk,” heard on dozens of radio stations weekly since 1985 and on XM Satellite Radio throughout the country.

CARSON CITY – A proposal by an out-going Nevada lawmaker to officially recognize an alternate pronunciation of the name of the state as an acceptable second-choice has generated a lot of comment, with most residents not surprisingly opposed to the idea.
But some of those posting comments on various news sites also support the idea that maybe Nevadans should be more tolerant of those who “mispronounce� the state’s name.
Others have suggested the resolution sought for drafting by Assemblyman Harry Mortenson, D-Las Vegas, is a waste of time and money.
