Dust reaching Carson City area from Black Rock Desert prompts weather service advisory
Blowing dust off the Black Rock Playa and Carson Sink has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Blowing Dust Advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Dust could reduce visibility down below one mile. Air quality can also be degraded due to the blowing dust, according to the weather service.
The advisory is for the Greater Reno, Carson City and Minden area, Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake and Northern Washoe County.
Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility can happen. The weather service advises motorists to be prepared for sudden decreases in visibility, possibly near zero. If you encounter a wall of dust, the weather service advises to slow down and leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
