Susan Asbury Crowell, wife of Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, and sponsor of the ship, officially introduced it with a bottle of champagne during the ceremony, which also featured Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei.

Alum Presents Refugee information
CHS alum, Kaitlin Brush (class of 2004), presented to social studies classes this past month. Her informational presentation focused on the definition of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons, and the current refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe and how different European countries are working to address the growing number of refugees.
Toys For Tots celebrates successful 2015 campaign

That faithfulness will stand to benefit around 3,000 children this year in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.
UNR researchers show a popular mercury measuring system yields inaccurate data
Submitted by editor on Mon, 12/14/2015 - 3:15pmResearchers at the University of Nevada, Reno have found that an instrument the scientific community commonly uses to measure mercury in the air yields inaccurate results.
Principal researcher Mae Gustin in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences has been leading the effort to determine the accuracy of a widely used mercury measuring instrument. The study is expected to support and inform regulatory decision-making aimed at protecting human and wildlife health.

The statist liberal crowd is used to controlling media narratives, and they don’t brook dissent or facts and logic that undermine their control.
When a conservative brings up a valid point or question, they get flustered and angry. Instead of a thoughtful, constructive, respectful answer, the conservative often gets shouted down, not debated in a reasonable exchange between civilized discussants.
UNR technology program targets middle school students for careers in computer science
Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/03/2015 - 10:25amOften referred to as the “coding gender gap,” computer science continues to be a field dominated by men. While women earn 57 percent of bachelor’s degrees nationally, they earn only 12 percent of computer science degrees.
According to University of Nevada, Reno Professor of Mathematics Education & Educational Equity Lynda Wiest, this gender gap is significant.

“We all have a gift card in a drawer somewhere or at the bottom of our purse that maybe has $1.33 left on it; What can you do with $1.33?” says Lt. Mark Cyr, Carson City officer in-charge. “If 10 people put one of those cards into one of our Red Kettles we can provide a family with a Christmas meal. That little bit of change can help 'change' one of your neighbors holiday.”

Carson City Sheriff: Four-year-old boy hospitalized after ingesting meth, father in custody
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 11/20/2015 - 11:01pmA 4-year-old Carson City boy was hospitalized Friday night after ingesting methamphetamine that allegedly belonged to the boy's father who is now custody on suspicion of child endangerment, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Taken into custody was Pedro Montanez, 27, on suspicion of child endangerment and possession of trafficking levels of a controlled substance.

Today is the last day it will be on display. Hear stories of Old Virginia City at the Gold Hill Hotel. Or take a trip to the Nevada State Museum: the bombing of a Basque village during the Spanish Civil War and the affect it had on the United States is the topic of this month’s Francis Humphry lecture.
