Author Caleb Cage to talk about book 'Desert Mementos: Stories of Iraq and Nevada'

Cage will read from his collection of short stories, "Desert Mementos: Stories of Iraq and Nevada." The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6pm at the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Cage preceding the event at 5:30pm. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

Area disabled veterans announce nuptials

Northern Cal/Neva residents Bonnie Porter and David Kotzebue, both disabled veterans, recently announced their intentions to marry. Ms. Porter and Mr. Kotzebue both have service-related disabilities, so their nuptials are planned for Veterans' Day.

Centennial marked for World War I era battleship named after Silver State

Her final resting place may lie somewhere at the bottom of the South Pacific Ocean, but the U.S.S. Nevada BB-36 will always have a memorial home here in Nevada's capital.

Two years ago, her memory was honored at the State Capitol with a plaque that commemorated the centennial of her initial launching.

Today, The Nevada was honored again on the State Capitol grounds with a second plaque commemorating the 100th anniversary of her completion and U.S. Navy commissioning.

However, our school year started with much sadness as our high school community lost one of our students in a tragic accident at Lake Tahoe.

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League meets on quarterly basis conduction a dinner, meeting and informational speakers that talk about the various duties the Sea Services provide. This quarter’s Dinner and meeting will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The Social hour will start at 5:30 PM and Dinner will begin at 6:30PM.
